I feel really stupid asking but i'm lost when it comes to all that computer speak. There must be a book or webpage that explains (in English) what all these words, terms and phrases mean. Any ideas please.

'blog' is short for Web log. A place where people 'log' their thoughts, opinions, information etc. so that other people can read it.

A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order.
