I asked them if their dog died,if I could have the coat...It was a joke......They say it was sick and heartless.I don't agree..

yes but u should say

I didn't mean anything by it and I'm sorry u got offended

instead of if u got offended

No. You should say, "Thanks for opening my eyes. I just thought it was funny, but since it seemed sick and heartless to you, I will now commit ritual hari-kari. Will that make it OK?" If they don't laugh, say "Well then, f*** you if you can't take a joke!" and walk away.

Hmmm, maybe that's not such good advice ... ignore it ...

I would say, "I'm sorry if I offended you." It sounds more like you were at fault.
