I'm assuming you have patented this invention (if not, that is your next step!)? If you have patented your idea you do need to develop your marketing strategy. Keep in mind marketing is not just advertising but involves creating a strategy whereby you will target your potential customer, how they will learn about the product, what they will be willing to pay. I would not go into production until you have pre-orders or until you have a solid marketing plan to ensure your product has enough potential buyers and your company has the ability to reach these buyers. Otherwise youll wind up with alot of product you cant sell. Also the results of your marketing study may affect how you produce the item, how much to make, and how you want it supplied to the buyer.

For some great workshops and Free consulting on developing a marketing plan - go to http://www.score.org and find your local chapter. This is a SBA affilitated group of volunteers who donate their time helping people learn about business ownership free of charge. They can help you figure out what to do.
