My apartment is overloaded with stuff and furniture and I would like to de-clutter. However, short of just throwing it in the trash, I can't figure out the fastest, financially smart thing to do to get rid of it! The idea of taking 100s if pics and selling the stuff on ebay sounds draining, giving it away to Goodwill would be a waste, and just letting it sit is driving me crazy. Any ideas on how to clean up my apartment and feel good about it in the process!

Let the record show, I am not selfish. I am, however, well aware of the fact that many of the items that go to Goodwill NEVER make it into the hands of the less fortunate. The volunteers and hired help take the stuff home for free! Plus, have you shopped at Goodwill lately? They mark the stuff up SKY HIGH because teenagers go there to shop for cool retro clothing.

It may feel like a waste, since I'm sure you paid good money for all that stuff, but giving it to Goodwill is the quickest way to rid yourself of the clutter. Maybe choose 10-20 of the most valuable things to auction off on eBay, but most of it will probably yield very little cash for your effort.
I think you'll find the freedom and relief you feel at regaining control over your environment will outweigh any sense of loss you may feel about giving up your unwanted things.
If you really feel strongly that your things are too valuable to just give away, drop them off at an online auction house such as the one listed below. They'll do all the work for a percentage of the sale price.
Good luck!

The small stuff you can't really sell or is just to cheap to sell, instead of the goodwill post it on your local freecycle page in the yahoo groups. It is a free site and people will pick up your things and you don't have to deal with much. And most of the people really need the things you give away.

Giving those things to Goodwill is hardly a waste. They are not benefiting you and you can help make a difference in allowing someone who doesn't have much to enjoy it as well.
Also it benefits the workers of Goodwill helping to keep them in jobs. The ones that are hired to work are usually handicapped in someway in need of a job.
Give unto others and enjoy your new space and knowing you made a difference in someone elses by your generosity.

YARD SALE!
Do you have a flea market around you? Pack it up, set up for 1 day, and unload it.
Did that with my stuff when I wanted to move and made over $300 in one day.
And, sorry, but I don't feel that Goodwill is a waste -- that's where I give (and GET) a lot of my stuff as well.

I just gave my stuff away. It was a lot of stuff and garage sales are really not my cup of tea. I gave away things ranging from toys and books to furniture and a truck. I made sure that everything I gave went to people who needed them and that way some jerk didn't steal it from GoodWill or anything.

If you take it to goodwill they will give you a receipt so you can claim it ont your taxes. So you get rewarded in the end and your doing good for others as well.
You will get more money off e-bay but not the same satiafaction you will get by helping others.

Get three large trash bags. Make one keep, one throw out and the other charity. Then just dive in! You can always have a sale if you don't want to donate anything! When you get done it will feel so good, you'll be very happy with yourself!

try the local craigslist
Take photos of the items (many per photo)
and price for each item. It's free, unlike ebay, and you can get cash in hand right away.
To be safe, make sure you don't invite them into your apt.

Try posting you items on Craigslist.org
Its free and you'll have the stuff gone by this weekend! Without elaborate posting details or costs incurred by Ebay - plus you arrange to have people pick it up at your convienence. - No costs or shipping!
then you can just donate whatever you weren't able to unload!

Well, giving to Goodwill isn't really a waste - and you should feel good about giving your unwanted things to people who wouldn't have those things otherwise. So....give it to Goodwill, or Salvation Army. They do home pickups too, so all you have to do is gather it up, and they will haul it away.
