I have a Packard Bell MZ35-U-005, which was working perfectly fine. I tried to play a dvd at one point, and got an error, even though i have been using the laptop to watch dvds for a while. The error said that the dvd was in use with another program or it asks me to adjust my monitor resolution or color settings. I have tried this even though they are set to normal values. The main confusion though, is that it still detects the drive, and i can still play games and rip music onto my hard drive, so the reader is working fine. Anbody got a suggestion as to the problem, and hopefully a solution?

You may not have drivers specific to Vista for those components.

That's why I never ever upgrade the O/S on a system from the one that it came with.

If I want Vista, I'll buy a new computer that comes from the factory with it loaded.

Most likely two dvd veiwer programs are running simultaneously creating a soft ware conflict Nero ,Emd, power iso win dvd etc... Emd drag to disk feature included! Have you recently installed any new soft ware or changed settings for this type of soft ware ? They are apparently set to auto detect Disable this feature wherever you find it and two windows explorer wont try exploring it at the same time
