Seriously , this is stupid as a person i can relax my hair if i want, i chose to do so because frankly, i have too much hair its so freaking curly and hard for me to handle so i get it striaght coz its easier. Its annoying people saying black women want my hair because it 'got white' in it. We should say to white girl who curls her hair that she wants afro hair, sooooo many white people get dred locks too and braids nowadays, when a white people wants a tan or dies their black, we should say 'omg they are so jealous they want to be black'.
Anyway the point is why do most people think like this? Dont i have the right to strighten my hair if i want to? Some times i like it afro some times i like it striaght. and weave is great because we have insist long or short hair or any colour or ouragous style dreds too we have plenty of choice. So why do people think black people want to be white when we decide to have a new look and straghted our hair or get weave? Cause we certainly do not.

Whites rarely understand what blacks have to go through when it comes to hair maintenance. My mother's hair takes 3 hours to dry under the hair dryer. My hair if I didn't dry using an electric dryer takes 24 hours. Plus it takes me 3 hours to get it twisted.

That idea comes from society classifying black hair as bad or nappy hair. Often times black women & men would relax or conk their hair to achieve the texture of white hair. They were made to feel their natural texture of hair was inferior. Society made 'white' hair the standard of beauty.

Now, it's just a matter of choice. I wear my hair natural but I know black hair grows extremely thick when in its natural state and it CAN be hard to manage.

Just wear whatever style you like, who cares what other ppl think.

It is ultimately your choice but black women seemed to be doing just fine before the chemical came along; in your whole paragraph I hope that when you're older you're not one of those black females who's losing hair in the back, or who's hair is falling out, or who's hairline is disappearing, or who has to wear a wig. If you do end up like that, then I'll be opted to say I told you so

I have been wondering about that for ages.

I have a 12-year-old black daughter, and naturally her hair is really THICK and hard to deal with. So she prefers to have it relaxed, so she can actually get a comb through it. And it looks so much better.

Also, she loves to put it in a cute little pony tail, when it's relaxed.

Everyone makes accusations likes these. Its best to ignore them and go about your way. By the way, when a white person tans they are not trying to look black. They want a light golden color like most hispanics have.

I say If you want it straight...do it...personally I haven't straighten my hair in years...my hair is naturally wavy and it would always rebel...so I just leave it in the natural form. I have found keeping layers in it makes it look better and easier to handle.

Well if some morons think that black women straighten their hair to look white, you can reply by saying that white men and women tan to look black. *u*

Just do what makes you happy and pay no mind to those people.. I assume you're young and still in school, because I know of no mature person who thinks like this.. Don't worry, 98 percent of students high school and below are idiots anyway.

I don't have a problem with black people straightening their hair. Likewise, I don't think they're trying to look white either. Do what you like with your hair, it's your business and no one elses. If some have a problem with it, then it's THEY'RE problem, certainly not yours. Good luck. 2D

You are right. Most folks are, unfortunately, ignorant and racist. Hair is hair, do what you want with what you've got! I'm white & my kid's white...I had my daughter's hair box-braided one summer for a few weeks -- she loved it...& so did I.
