What do you think has been the worst (or best I guess, for the other team)/ most lopsided trade of the last say 10 or 12 years.

I'll nominate Boof Bonser, Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano (to the Twins) for catcher A.J. Pierzynski and cash (to the Giants). Any others?

i agree with you the giants got a.j., who is no longer on their team. The Twins were more than happy to deal him to give joe mauer playing time, and look how that turned out. While the twins got two of their starting pitchers boof and liriano(hopefully he learns from johan and can stay healthy) and if you look at joe nathan's stats he is one of the most dominant closers in the league, when the twins are actually winning a close game in the 9th. As a Twins fan everytime one of those three play I thank the Giants.

I agree with you, Boof Bonser, Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano for AJ Pierzynski and Cash is by far the most lopsided trade in recent history. Plus when you have Joe Mauer coming up to take Pierzynski's place as back up catcher, this makes the trade even more lopsided because the Giants didnt get anything good out of the deal whereas the Twins didnt get anything bad.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this although it could be that most people still don't know about him but the Mariners traded Carlos Guillen to the Tigers for Ramon Santiago. Guillen has had a .317 average in 4 years with the Tigers and is good for 20 home runs and 85-110 RBI when healthy. He's also the first player ever since 1900 to raise his batting average for 6 consecutive seasons.

An interesting side note is that the Tigers signed Ramon Santiago as a free agent last year so the Mariners essentially gave up Guillen for nothing. Furthermore, Santiago had only 47 at bats with the Mariners and hit just .170

Edit:
Also the Tigers got Jeremy Bonderman from the A's in a 3-way deal that sent Ted Lilly to Oakland and Jeff Weaver to the Yankees

Bonser, Nathan, and Liriano for Pierzynski was lopsided, as was Kazmir for Zambrano, but what about Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew for Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore. Sizemore is a superstar, Phillips is one of the best 2nd basemen in the game right now (granted this didn't work out for the Indians but the Expos gave him up in the Bartolo deal), and Cliff Lee has won 46 games over the past 3 years (2004-2006). Bartolo pitched one season with the Expos before they shipped him off to Chicago. Now he's in Anaheim and he's hurt. I know he's had some good seasons since leaving Cleveland, but the talent (2 All-Stars and a solid LH pitcher) the Expos gave up for him was not worth it.

July 30, 2004 – The New York Mets trade pitcher Scott Kazmir and infielder Jose Diaz to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Bartolome Fortunato and Victor Zambrano.

For my nomination I'm putting in a trade between the Florida Marlins and the Minnesota Twins. In which a one Johan Santana got sent to the Twinkies for a one Jared Camp. I'd say that was lopsided, just a little bit!

Two trades with the Red Soxs (1 good 1 bad)

Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, Jorge De La Rosa, and Michael Goss to the Diamondbacks for Schilling.

The soxs send Jeff Bagwell to the astros for Larry Anderson ( a bit later then your time frame but a good one)

hey that was my pick, let me try and think of another

July 31, 1997 – The Seattle Mariners trade pitcher Derek Lowe and catcher Jason Varitek to the Boston Red Sox for closer Heathcliff Slocumb

had to search for it cause the bonser, nathan, liriano trade was definitely going to be my answer :-)

the obvious correct answer to this question is the Dodgers trading Pedro Martinez to the Expos for Delino Deshields. Also, David Ortiz was released by the Twins not traded. I didnt see someone said my trade so i have to find another. Well then how about Babe Ruth to the Yankees for 100,000 cash
