Oh this is a very good question. I think it has to start with the family, then work up to the friends and co-workers. The only way I see this truely happening is if the movement grows quickly. Like you convince 2 people to buy only american made. And these 2 people each convince 2 more people. And on and on and on.
Do you have personal website? This might help your movement.
Good luck, count me in on your new movement.

People will buy American only if it is cost effective to do so. Either that or if the cost of the product means nothing to them. In order to be cost effective either the quality has to be high or the price has to be low. And since American employers have a minimum amount they are forced to pay labor then they simply can't compete with price. If I pay my workers $6.00 an hour to produce the same quality as a foreign factory paying $2.00 a day who do you think is going to have cheaper goods? You can try to make people aware of the hidden costs, but at the end of the day very few people will want to pay $10 more for the same shirt just because it's made in America. Maybe you should try an experiment where in exchange for room and board your employees are paid NOTHING for a set period of time, and then are entitled to a share of the profits based on time served. You need a new economic model and new ways of doing things, because if you can't compete economically then no amount of "Buy American" stickers and commercials will help you. That's just the law of the jungle.

Well, first we have to stop being arrogant and ignorant and self centered and go back to work and show some pride in what we do. We think any working job is beneath us and if we do have to take that job actually make the only efforts of our day to sabotage the work and the product. I've not gotten a good box of Nabisco Saltine Crackers in years. And I keep trying, and I keep getting unsealed bags and cracker bits and wrappers that are sealed through the crackers. Who works at Nabisco = American workers. And this is just one tiny example. I Will buy the best product and rearely is that an American one.

Your last three words are at the heart of the problem. As long as we maintain our standard of living, meaning that we want to have all of the latest gadgets, in addition to every luxury that our credit card will allow, while paying the american worker $$$ per hour, manufacturing jobs will remain overseas, where workers have a more realistic outlook on consumption. All of our jobs are now in the service sector because US manufacturers can't make a profit in this country.

For that to work, you would have to know what products are Made in America. For example, would you buy a Ford Mustang over a Toyota Previa (forget that one is a sports car and the other is a mini-van)? Well, perhaps you didn't know that only 15% of the parts and assembly of the Mustang are made in the USA. 85% in Mexican. Yet, the Toyota Previa is 85% made in America. Most Chryslers are more Canadian and Mexican than they are American.
Wal-Mart used to only purchase "American" items, but it became too hard and too expensive. So, if we only buy stuff that is Made in America, most people could not afford to live.

Between the greenies and the high taxes layed upon our factories they have been run overseas and probably will stay there. The cost of constantly trying to meet the emission standards in America started the runaway and there is no way to compete with the wages overseas. It is sad but will only get worse I fear.

if the cost of oil continues to rise what is it going to cost to ship from China and will it then be cheaper to buy products made in the US ?the cost of transportation is one of the things that will stop globalization the other would be the continuing fall of the dollar which seems imminent- neither of these things is a good thing even if it does help globalization to fail

Be willing to pay more for an inferior Union Made product...
Seriously, America has to decide if it wants to compete in the World Market Place again. Our Labor costs are way to high, and they aren't going down...

There is already a movement for it. I know many others like me who buy American unless they cant. Unfortunately it can be more pricey, so its not always an option for some of us.

I always try to buy American when I can...but it's becoming harder the more time passes.
One day there will be no manufacturing jobs in the US...and if there are, they will be done by $3.00 an hour illegals.
