most stoves can be lifted from the front and there should be a long rod to hold the top up....first you have to pull the elements out...they just plug in...pull the knobs off...then try lifting the stove top from the front.......good luck

(I have an electric range and I hate it, too.) When the heating coils are completely cool, see if they can be lifted up without unplugging them (mine can) or unplug them. Lift out the reflector bowls. Grab the metal rings that support the coil, too, if your stove has them. Soak the reflector bowls in a solution of hot water and dishwasher detergent. This is easily done in a skillet or large mixing bowl that's dirty anyway. Scrape at any heavy char with a steel wool pad or even a dull knife. In the course of a few hours, the worst will loosen and can be scrubbed off. I sometimes run mine through the dishwasher at this point, then scrub them again by hand. If they're really awful, you can buy replacements at places like Home Depot or Lowe's, but I never bother, since they're going to get all yucked up again in a matter of weeks.

If you can remove the heating coils and drip pans to allow you access to the catch pan below, this will probably be your only access, (through these holes in the top). Be sure you turn off the electric before attempting a cleaning underneath with any liquids, this thing is powered by 220 volts, enough to kill you if you get hooked up to some errant wiring.

If its harvest gold, it probably 30 years old and I dont think they had an easy way into. http://appliancequickfix.com/
has a lot of info on stoves, but i took a look and it didnt say anything about this. Some have to be lifted out and a bunch of screws taken out around the sides.........Forget it.

Lord of love beat me.
all the knobs, elements, and drip pans can be removed, then you lift the top. (and say, eww, it's been a long time)
Want to come do mine? I'll supply the adult beverages.
