The more healthy you are going into the pregnancy, the more healthy you and your baby will be during pregnancy.

Carrying around a whole other person in your womb is a lot of work on your body! You need to do everything you can to be in overall good health and physical condition.

Hi nikki

Folic acid is the most often discussed prenatal vitamin, but Vitamin D is also critical.

It's important to start now and get your Vitamin D up to optimal level. Get some sunshine without sunscreen every day and make sure you're adequately supplementing Vitamin D.

Sunscreen/sunblock prevents you from getting optimal Vitamin D. Also, in North America you can only get enough Vitamin D from the sun about 3 months of the year and supplements are recommended (experts recommend from about 1000 IU to 4000 IU of D3/day with the optimal tested level between 75-100nmol/L).

Vitamin D deficiency may be connected to Diabetes Type 1. Also, The Vitamin D Council has put out a hypothesis that autism may be on the rise because we've all been scared out of the sun.

Good luck!

Its good to start stocking up on those vitamins now. Plus, you will probably be a good three to five weeks along before you even find out your pregnant, if you're already taking the prenatals, you will have been taking them from the very start.

Prenatal vitamins are supposed to be taken before, after and during pregnancy. Your body gets prepared with all the essential vitamins like folic acid which is really important when u get pregnant.

That way from the start you and your baby will be healthy. There's nothing wrong with taking prenatal vitamins when you're not pregnant. I know of a woman who takes them because of health problems. They are very good for you.

Prenatal vitamins are filled with vitamins that are good for the baby and yourself, to take it before you get pregnant would ensure that the baby is getting those vitamins from the time he or she is conceived. Most doctors also prescribe prenatal vitamins for mothers after they give birth.

Because of the folic acid. Some babies are born with spina bifita (not sure how to spell) And it is caused by low folic acid in early pregnancy. If you are already taking enough folic acid before you get pregnant it reduces the risk.

Because once you find out your pregnant the baby has already been developing essential brain matter for close to two weeks and you need to already have those vitamins available.
