(6)(3) = 6 * 3 = 18
4(2+12) = (4*2) + (4*12) = 8 + 48 = 56

74
You solve the innermost brackets first.
So 2 + 12 is 14
That leaves you with the sum of two products. The first product is 6 times 3, which is 18. The second product is 4 times 14, which is 56.
18 plus 56 is 74

The answer is 74 as most who have answered correctly.
Why?
Go back to basics and follow the rules of the hierarchy of mathematical operations which states:
1. Simplify inside the parenthesis...in your case, the first thing you do is add the 2 + 12 inside the parenthesis giving you 14.
2. Simplify exponents, left to right...in your case, there are none
3. Perform all multiplication and division operations from left to right...in your case, multiply 6 x 3= 18 and 4 x 14 = 56
4. Perform all addition and subtration operations from left to right....from #3 above, add 18 + 56 = 74
Use those rules wherever you have these operations and you will always be right!
