The pipes in my shower have started "singing" lately. Does this signify a larger problem? Should I fix it, and if so, how?

This is most likely caused by the washer coming loose from the end of the stem of the faucet. Turn off the water and remove the stems. Check the screw that holds the washer to the stem.

I bet they "sing" when you use the shower valve. You'll need to turn the water off to the house and take the stems out of the valve. There should be a screw holding the handles on and if the stems are brass then they just screw out. If they are plastic then there is a nut that holds the stems in. At any rate remove these stems and either replace the whole stem or check to see if there is a washer on the end of the stem. If there is then you will need to replace the washers. Look inside the body of the valve to inspect the seats that are screwed into the valve. sometimes these become ragged and will wear the washers away. You may need to replace those too. You can usually get those out with an allen wrench if you dont have seat wrenches. Take all your parts to a plumbing supply store or a faucet specialty store to get the replacements. good luck

You could make a tape, and play it back to the pipes. Then they will know how bad they sound, and stop.

They've come loose from their anchors to the studs.
You could try harmonizing.
