Well, Rafael, I think it's because some of them fly planes into buildings and try to kill us every once in a while.

It is what the media wants them to believe. All we see are "muslims" burning American flags and trying to kill soldiers and what not. Muslims dislike Americans forcing their cultures and values on them, like most societies in the world. Americans tend to feel they are always right in the global arena regardless of what they have done in past negotiations or wars. This phobia of muslims is a preconceived stereotype that the administration wants us to believe. Terrorists can be anyone, that is what makes their terrorizing antics so scary. To answer your question on a local perspective, my high school had a fairly sizable population of palestinian muslims and jewish people of european descent yet there was not one altercation that ever occurred. The student body was never in fear nor were the respective students hostile towards one another. In fact, many attended the others grad parties, social events, etc. without incident. They used to joke that if they were in Israel they'd be ripping each others eyes out. Just an example of how an environment can change how people are taught to act towards one another. If I am rambling, I'm sorry but Americans need to get off their makeshift pedestal and realize that not everyone wishes to be like them. We are trying to influence cultures that are thousands of years older than ours, just live and let God. One.

Rafael,

It is not a true Phobia of Muslims. There are many Muslims here in the United States. You need to see the average American and understand what input they receive on a daily basis.

People fear what they do not understand, and some aspects of the Islamic faith seem alien to your average Judeo-Christian American. Keep in mind the aspects I am speaking of are related to the fundamentalist fringe of Islam, not what I would call mainstream Islam. The two become very blurred together in American news coverage.

Turn off the volume and look at any news program in the USA. Look at Fox News, CNN, Etc.. and watch them cover the war or terrorism subjects. You will see Mosques, people in daily prayer at the Mosques. Then you will see images of masked insurgents or terrorists, and then you will see bombs going off or bodies laying on the ground. NOTE: This is just the visual images seen on American TV.

The media here has not made a choice to ensure there is a distinction drawn between main stream and fringe radical. So the majority of people in the States equate the two. Nor have the majority of people taken any steps to learn the difference.

The radical extremists on both sides garner the majority of media focus so that is the only side we hear. On the other hand not all Americans hate Muslims and want to steal their oil and right to living a good life either.

There are suicide bombers that seem to destroy and maim their own people, and we have greedy fat cat politicians who would sell their own mothers soul if it would guarantee they could die with one more dollar in their hands. Both are evil and have the capacity to ruin lives and wreck havoc and have been running amok.

We have our own extremists blathering on the news also. Pat Robertson and others of the radical right never stop spouting tripe. However, the majority of Americans can very kind and tolerant of people with different beliefs.

The unknown is what we truly fear and we all fear change. Unfortunately the powers that are in charge on both sides just seem to want to ratchet up the propaganda and keep the fires of hate stoked up good.

It is unfortunate, and many people will die because of it. In America as it is in the Middle East we fear what the powers in charge want us to fear and program us to hate.

They fear what they do not understand and what is foreign to them.
Firtsly muslim culture is different from americas christianity way of life.
This is further complicated betwwwn the issues between chrsitians and muslin back in the day.

Terrorism which is often associated with muslin further makes the situation worst.

I would think it would be because of their methods of warfare ( bite your behind, while no one is looking ). I was referring to our American experience with their kind of war on 9/11. The rest of civilized world seem to prefer to fight like honest men and women do: face to face.

I don't think they do. There are alway the extremes in any race, color or creed. that are hell bent on creating turmoil.
Those are the ones that we need to be leary of. That just means that the majority are major law abiding, decent citizens, whereever they may abide

Because people who beleive that are ignarant and should be in jail. If you want to be racist, well you might rot in jail, or even hell.
