The reason for racism is ignorance. The cause for ignorace is lack of education or just plain stupidity. I understand that. But, why do people just keep thinking that other races are bad or stupid. They're not. Every race has their stupid people. But, every race has their smart and educated people.
And skin color and eye shape doesn't mean anything. That's what happens when we adapt to our environments.
So, will someone please explain to me NOW, why are so many people racist?

Thank you to those of you that answered truthfully. =) I appreciate it. It seems like there are actually some people that know why.

Oh, by the way, before you call me white, I'm not white. I'm just pale! That's all! ^^

Thank you for being brave enough to bring this issue to everyone's attention. I think that racism comes from individual insecurities of everyone. It is so much easier to stereotype the entire race of people, than taking a hard look at your own pity self. Deep inside we all know the true value of ourselves. By putting other people down, some of us just trying to prevent other's from noticing it. Pretty pathetic business, don't you think?

I truly believe it comes from experience. I work in a prodominant minority area, and the stereo-types hold true. I never used to be considered racist, and I don't consider myself to be now - but I see the stereotypical actions and I understand how and why people think the way they do. It seems the more educated I get about certain races, the more I fall into seeing and believing the stereotypes. I know - not the answer you wanted, but I was trying to be honest. Unfortunatly, a few bad apples really does spoil the whole bunch.

Racism is always going to exist. And people who are blatantly racist are just trying to get attention. Ignore those fools.

I think it is just whatever you grow up with or based on a traumatic or scary incident...For instance of friend of mine was sexually harassed by a Mexican and now she hates them with a passion just because of that one stupid guy...then others hear bad things about whites or blacks or Native Americans or whatever as young children and just kind of stick with it...
