Voter apathy is a serious problem. Many people fought, died, lost their families and friends, and went to great lengths to give us the right to vote. It should be a cherished right and those who don't exercise it shouldn't be able to complain about one thing that happens in this country.
That being said, voting is not always the easiest of processes..and least of all an informed vote. You actually have to involve yourself in the issues and listen to all the candidates for their views, and decide who best speaks for you. Most of the time, if not all the time, you don't agree with any of them 100% of the time, so you have to weigh pros against cons. It is hard work and it can be hard deciphering lies from the truth. Many people are consumed with their daily life, and find it hard to spend the time necessary. Many people vote for who is the "cutest" or straight down party lines. These people are cheating themselves and cheating every one else in the country.
People need to wake up and vote now, or someday they may not be able to.

Voter apathy is caused by social problems. Citizens who choose not to voice their political privilege are most likely disenfranchised with politics in some way. The root of the voter apathy is the feeling that an individual vote cannot change the course of American politics.
The only way we can solve the problem of voter apathy is to help people understand that they have a right, a voice, and a duty to help shape the present and future of their nation.
