Do A mixed media art journal. Give yourself a goal of just one page per week or even just one page per month.
Get unbound sheets of paper all about the same size and do each one to express something that is going on around you (try to paint emotions or make a collage out of the movie stubs you saved from the past month. Put in a picture you took with a camera and them modified with markers and paint.)
Then date each journal entry and try to say a couple of sentences about what the art means to you.
At the end of a year take all of the individual pieces and bind them together. Suggestions for binding:
1. tie with ribbon
2. paste each one into a scrap book
3. join them with a piece of paper tape along the side edge (place tape on back side.) Then let each page fold up like a fan.
4. take to a print shop and have bound up for you in a presentation folder.
5. Skip binding all together and display each one in it's own frame around your room. You can look at them and be inspired to start a new journal.
Hope this helps.

Ok, there are a lot of great ideas here already.
I journal in images - I paste/tape things on the page, I doodle, I add stickers and other scrapebooking embellishments as the mood strikes me. I carry my journal with me along with a small pouch with different colored gel pens (LOVE EM!), a glue stick and small scissors. Sometimes I throw in some stickers.
I love doing it, it keeps me journaling, and since I carry it, the art is in the moment, when I'm feeling it the strongest.
I also have a traditional journal, but I don't write an entry everyday. I DO create an entry everyday in my traveling journal. (I use a cheap hard-cover journal from Walmart or Target. Sometimes I splurge for a small, wire-bound scrapbook with blank pages and no page protectors, it can handle the embellishments really well.)
You could also try altered books. Good yahoo group on that subject: alteredbooks.
Have fun - there are some great tips here.

Lots of good ideas here... it's best to do some kind of "journal" that allows you to do something you actually enjoy, and that can always mean thinking outside the box!
One other suggestion (though I may have missed it above) is just to make lists, etc., or use short phrases possibly accompanied by doodles or pasted-in bits or even arrows or other things to other phrases or words.
Some people don't enjoy writing in full sentences all the time, so if you're one of those, just find some kind of way to put your thoughts/feelings/interests on paper however you can.

I had a friend who used different color pens in her journal. It was one of the most colorful books I've ever seen. If you used a different color for each mood or event, and then illustrated it or put stickers in it, that might make it more interesting. One other way is to make a scrapbook of important events and type up the details for each event. It is your journal, you can make it as detailed as you want. I wouldn't recommend writing down EVERYTHING (like what you had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, exactly what you did that day and what shows you watched. That would bore you later if you ever had to go back and find anything.)

How about a blog? You can go to Yahoo or MSN or one of many sites that have blogging. I use MSN. I can be creative with my backrounds and fonts there. I can upload pics. I can "write" what I want about any subject that comes to my mind. I can change the settings to make it so it is totally private, I can make it public or I can set it so a select few can read it. Of course you can do those things at Yahoo as well.
I found it to be relaxing and it is also a great way to vent my frustrations.

Try making collages of things you like. If you take pictures you could print them out and cut them up as well. For instance, if you went to a concert with friends you could make a collage out of your ticket stub, pictures of the friends, and a coaster from the restaurant where you ate dinner. If you want, you could add a note or two about who was there or what you did.

Forget writing at all - use a tape recorder or some other recording device. Even cell phones now have voice messaging and you can record your thoughts, then download them all to a CD. Later, when you have more time, you can make a YouTube movie or CD out of them with pictures and all.

Well, no one ever said you have to write in it. Writing's boring, I'll admit that, I hate it too, so why not type it on the computer or something? You'll need typing in high school, college, etc., so why not increase your speed now while making a journal on the computer?

Journal entries are mainly for your thoughts and ideas that whirl around in your mind, it's just fun going back reading it all and seeing how you used to think and how you've grown, and remembering all the little shits you've been through. Just have fun, its not homework or anything.
