1964 - I was in the 11th grade. A senior was going surfing and asked me to go to the beach with him.

Mom and dad were building a waterfall for the swimming pool and their mission was to collect rocks. When he came to pick me up, mom asked, "What beach are you going to? Do they have rocks there?" Yes they did.

The beach was below a cliff. There I was making-out with this guy in the sand and when I looked up, guess who was standing on the cliff watching us? I was very embarrassed to say the least!

Live on TV....July 20, 1969...."THEY'RE ON THE MOON!" screamed the headines all over. Positively breathtaking. I was 10....watched it on TV.....the whole world came to a dead stop to watch the coverage on TV.....even interrrupted the baseball game and ran that news bit on the score board. I have chills just remembering it!

In 1969 the Vietnam war was going on, man first walked on the moon; I had a beautiful baby girl; Woodstock happened; the terrible Tate-La Bianca murders were committed, and the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, and Ravi Shankar were among top musical artists of the time. Oh, and the baby and I survived food poisoning when I was almost 9 months pregnant. With her birth I had 4 little ones 4 years and under at home; don't ask me how we all made it!

I try to remember the good stuff, but it's funny how the bad stuff seems stronger.
Bad: We lived close enough to the Watts area of Los Angeles to hear the gunshots and of course all the sirens, and see the flames during the riots of 1965. We had to stay in the back of our house during those times. We moved everything out of the living room and front bedroom, into the back bedroom and kitchen. Then, we closed the curtains and put big plywood boards up across the front walls.

Good: Hubby and I both worked at a private amusement park and served corporate parties. We got to take home all the left over (untouched) food. The owner would even cut into a fresh roasted brisket, just so we could take it. We were very poor college students in those days, but we got to go to Disneyland every month with coupons from the job.

a sad time for me. In Feb 1964 my husband drowned in the ocean while I held our 8 month old son in my arms. I was in California. Almost lost my son a month later. Made a long move to Idaho. Moving company lost all of my things for 5 months.
The bad quake hit Alaska and the sunami. I had many friends that went to Vietnam and never returned. The draft was a go in those days. After about 6 months I snapped out of my funk and became a human again. I had friends and relatives in Idaho and they helped me out alot -- even when I weighed less than 80 lbs. Quite a trauma for a 19 year old to go thru. I remember CCR and Simon and Garfunkle the Beetles, the Righteous Bro's. Chubby Checker and the Twist. Lucy Baines Johnson and her fruge.
Beatnicks all over the place. Riots over Vietnam. I remarried 3 more times, decided I would never get it right again and gave up on it. Have 3 wonderful children that are all productive nice people with good jobs. Good times and bad ones but all over now!!

Late Summer vacation - 1994
My mom and I drove up to Niagara Falls, New York, and then onto Toronto, Canada. It was a crisp September and we had the greatest time. We stayed in Markham and took the subway into downtown Toronto.

I had been to see the Falls with my son and nephew when they were kids, but decided that my mom should see it too! What fun.

Maybe Montreal is next. Been there already too with my Ex but my mom has never been.

Sorry, other than what has been mentioned above, can't think of anything else memorable for the years you chose.

1964 Visiting relatives in Seattle, watching the ships sail away with the young men not much older than me lined up on deck.

Watching the gorgeous men in dress uniform and young ladies in gorgeous gowns going into some fancy ball for them.

Listening to the "The Eve of Destruction" being played every hour on this one radio station, getting a letter from a friend saying he was off to Vietnam.

Knowing I was too young and too immature to respond to him with the support he needed.

Having him "disappear" somewhere in Vietnam, never head from him again - at least once a month I wonder "Glen what happened to you? where are you?"

I was a very serious young person. Canadian yes but the Vietnam war was "personal" for me.

Going outside and looking up at the moon and thinking, being totally awed by it, " there are human beings up there right now."

1969 Getting married to get away from my mother when I was waaaaaaayyyyy too young, and that marriage lasted about two months. But it meant she couldnt force me to live at home anymore.

1969 - I was 11 years old and growing up in New Jersey. The Mets won the World Series that year. Tom Seaver has always been my hero, and to this day, if I play sports I wear the number 41.
