Hi,
For this problem, the answer will be irrational meaning that it would not be a perfect square. Therefore, the best way to solve this is by using a calculator.
Your answer would come out to be: +/- 3.162
I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Sincerely,
Andrew

This is a general method but I will use 10 for example.
1. Find the two perfect square numbers it lies between.
3^2 = 9 and 4^2 = 16, so the square root of 10 lies between 3 and 4.
2. Divide 10 by 3. 10/3 = 3.33 (you can round off your answer)
3. Average 3.33 and 3. (3.33 + 3)/2 = 3.1667
Repeat step 2: 10/3.1667 = 3.1579
Repeat step 3: Average 3.1579 and 3.1667. (3.1579 + 3.1667)/2 = 3.1623
Try the answer: Is 3.1623 squared equal to 10? 3.1623 x 3.1623 = 10.0001
If this is accurate enough for you, you can stop! Otherwise, you can repeat steps 2 and 3.
This is only one method, there are others. No calculator is needed.

either use a calculator or
make use trial and error eg greater than 3 - 3^2 = 9
smaller tan 4 - 4^2 = 16

square root of 2 is around 1.4142 and square root of 5 is roughly 2.23, than you multiply 1.4142 by 2.23

well with a calc and you get approximately 3.16
other ways you could do it by guessing, ex. you know it is between 3 and 4. then between 3 and 3.5...
