The Minneapolis-St.Paul metro (commonly called the Twin Cities) is actually one of the safer metropolitan areas in the nation. Minneapolis ranks 30th among cities with more than 250,000 people and St. Paul ranks 46th. These rankings are based solely on homicides per 100,000 people. According to these numbers, you are more likely to be murdered in Miami, Pittsburg, Tulsa, Buffalo, Atlanta, Newark, or St. Louis than in Minneapolis or St. Paul. I have linked a website that has other crime statistics like theft, rape, robbery, arson, etc. for you to compare.
