In the 40s there were Mills in the USA. These were made of Cheap plastic and a red one was a tenth of a penny and the Green a half of a penny. The only thing they were really good for was poker chips. They were made for some of the half cent taxes on things.....a 5 penny sucker was 5.5 pennies. As an aside the nine tenths tax that follows the price of gasoline (petrol) in the States is a legacy of that era that has never gone away.

ABSOLUTELY! I hate those useless pieces of crap. They are trash. In australia they dont have pennies - prices still will end with pennies but at the register, they round to the nearest 5¢ (not every item, but your total - so the most you are ever overpaying is 3¢) like if your total bill comes to $19.93 you pay $19.95.

Personally, I'd be alright with doing away with coins in general. But definitely the penny would be the first to go.

i despise pennies! down with pennies. lets get them out of the country. they are ruining our society. these no good pennies.

yes! get rid of them! 2.99 3.59 just make it freakin 3.00 even or 3.60. It doesn't matter just get rid of them. But I like that its copper. That's cool and I also like Abe on there. but 1 cent what the hell?
