If you're talking about the season I saw, they were able to make things relatively fair by turning the amount of pounds lost into the percentage of weight lost (A woman would usually shed less pounds per week than a man, but she had less weight to start out with- therefore if a man lost 10 lbs and she only lost 5, they could still have lost the same percentage of individual body mass).
As far as voting people off, a lot of the voting in the last few episodes (when the game started to get more geared towards individual competition instead of team competition) was determined by who people thought would be most likely to win the grand prize. A lot of the players then tried to get rid of who they thought would be most likely to win the game to give themselves a better shot at winning.
On the episodes, you only see two trainers and one doctor, but I'm sure behind the scenes they have a lot more trainers, doctors, and consultants making sure the players don't get seriously injured (or worse)... although I'm guessing all of the contestants had to sign waivers and such.
I have to admit I find myself watching the show just to see that it's possible to lose that much weight... even if it's next to impossible to do in the real world :)

Some of the show is staged but the people are real and the weight is real. Most of these people will die at any early age if they don't lose weight. They get a check-up by a doctor before going to the camp and several times in between while there. Everyone has supervision at all times while working out and they are monitored daily. You just have to take a chance of getting voted off. If you lose weight faster or more than someone else then you could become a risk. That is everyone actually everyone is for themselves to win the money in the end.

The weight loss is determined by PERCENTAGE of weight lost, not by the actual # of pounds. So the teams and losses are judged fairly.
Yes, if you don't lose a lot, they may vote you off. Or, if THEY want to stay on -- they may vote off the person losing the most. I've seen it go both ways.
Yes, they monitor the people. There is a disclaimer at the end of the show, I think it is, that they are constantly under a doctor's care during all this, and anyone beginning an exercise program should consult their physician, etc.
I agree -- it IS impressive. Wonder how many will KEEP it off for, say, 10 years?

sure maximum truly. Helen over did her new look. She weighs 117, whilst she entered weighing in approximately 250 something pounds. i think of she permit it get to her head, its truly glaring she needed that funds. She have been given "expert" running shoes which i individually think of is arbitrary simply by fact I mean hi? could no longer you have gotten expert running shoes interior the 1st place earlier you went on the main important loser? It would not make any experience to me. meanwhile, Tara & Mike looked like they did it on their own. Helen had no disgrace for her daughter. Helen asked for her daughter to leave, i do no longer even think of she deserved to be there in any respect. Her daughter replace into obese & would have benefitted from her moms help & "expert" running shoes.

All I know is that I know someone who was once on the show, and now that all of the fancy trainers are gone, they're right back to where they were before the show.
