Blue Amberol Records?

Question

my grandparents have tons of these things and they're paying my to clean the dust and dirt off them. my gpa told me not to get the outside (record) part wet..but it's kinda hard not to when im cleaning them over the sink...i'm basically getting the dirt off the top so you can read the artist and song name..i already got a few wet..so i was wondering does it really matter? it just wipes right off...
