sprinkle baking soda on them, and let it absorb the smell, then vaccumn, and shampoo with carpet shampoo.

YES first you have to remove the house and get a new one. just kidding. The only way I seen that works is to pull the carpet back and primer the floor with oil base KILZ, replace the dirty part of the padding and use a enzyme cleaner on the carpet. That works for cats, Rug Doctor has good stuff for other pet problems.

First of all, if you still have the pet, make them an outdoor pet or the problem is going to continue. Replacing the carpet (If it was a cat) and using the Killz primer on the floor is about your only option. Our dogs would pee on the carpet once in a while and we always just used Lysol to kill the bactieria and we had 3 dogs and you could not smell dog at all.

I was a self employed carpet cleaner for years, the best way is to have a pro with a truck mount unit clean your rug, as the spray can reach the pad.

Try Bi-Carb Soda. Sprinkle it on the carpet liberally and then spray with vinegar. It foams up, rub into the stain, leave to dry and vacuum up.
