Moving is NOT fun and you wouldn't have been able to do it alone. When you are at your friend's house, try to determine what they need help with that they've been putting off for a long time because it's either not fun or too overwhelming. They provided physical labor and you should provide some in return.

Examples would be:

Washing windows
Painting the house
Waxing their car
Pruning fruit trees
Stacking firewood
Mending a fence
Pulling weeds
Hauling junk to the dump
Cleaning out the garage
Organizing the junk room

Etc. Beer and pizza is nice. But, consider what you would appreciate if you had been the helper!

beer usually works for my friends. Also - gift certificates or cash are nice.

Depends on how much you moved and how much they helped. For example, someone who helps move your entire household to an out of town location should get rewarded more than someone who helped move a one-bedroom apartment 10 miles down the road.

If sexual healing is very much out of the question (let's say your crazy Uncle Todd helped you move, for example) hold them a spot in line at Department of Motor Vehicles?

Usually pay them between $25-$50 and/or take them out to a really nice dinner for all their efforts and hard work.

We had a big BBQ for all our helpers after we got settled. Then we returned the favor as needed.
We smoked the ribs and Brisket and had lots of baked beans and potato salad

I know when I moved I order some pizzas and sodas, so that they could keep their energy up and keep them happy and unhungy. They were happy.
You should take them out to eat, ask them what they like to eat and then go to lunch or dinner with them.

I think gift cards are nice. Some people are happy with a case of beer, depends on the people involved.

I've always bought pizza and beer for people that have helped me move, at the very least. I may have them over for a housewarming event too.
