The history and traditions of British theatre has much to do with the high standard of British actors and we produce some wonderful character actors too.

But don't be too hard on the Americans, they might produce a lot of 'stars,' but they have some excellent actors too and you've got to go a long way to find a better actor than Dustin Hoffman.

If you mean stage actors, then I agree - and I guess it is because of the long strong theatrical tradition here. Most British actors began in Repertory or as an ASM and learned their craft over time.
In America, theatre - as a huge generalisation - has been more musical and vaudeville based.

But if you mean cinema/film/screen actors then I think the Americans are without equal - Brando, Pacino, De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, John Voight, Orson Welles, Katherine Hepburn, Meryl Streep and on and on and on

I would say the Americans have the best actors by far. Even the kids put emotion into it. I'm not a fan of soap operas but do you remember the god awful acting of the original Tracey Barlow in Coronation street? That was sad. As if she was reading it streight from a script. I find a lot of British actors are lousy at it. Yet there are very few American actors do the same. Anyone worth their salt from this country ends up in the US because they know where they're better off.

We're just more talented...............having said that we did produce Keira Knightley who isn't a good actress and the US do have Johnny Depp (who is just amazing!) so not all the actors we turn out are the best in the world.

Because us Brits dont do the ugly size zero. By the way I am not a fat person but most American actresses look like they have just done a stint in a prisoner of war camp. Not a good look
