No, happiness is not defined by what is available to you in life, it is a state of mind.
Simply being content, is what brings about happiness.

No I do not think so. People centuries ago are the reason for those technology eventhough it is becoming better. Back then they were happier for other reasons. Now a days people base their happiness on the things that they have and it should not be that way. It should come from within and following your heart and gut. That is how people centuries ago stayed happy. They were more spiritual than people now. The technology and ideological progresses just make it easier to live and rely on these things to help them out. You can not get happiness from things or money, it has to come from within yourself. If you are then you are more of a superficial and materialistic person for it then.

Nope.. There is a line in the movie CONTACT where they say that here we are in a time of technological achievement with all our cell-phones, email, internet and the like and because of it we distance ourselves from each other even more. I'm guilty of it. I send emails rather than call someone on the phone. But to be honest, I find I am happier when I get to actually talk face to face and laugh rather than type LOL on a piece of square glass that lights up...

I absolutely think so. Technology is a blessing in many ways but it can weigh us down and keep up overly occupied. I live 10 minutes away from a huge Amish community and they are some of the most genuinely happy and kind people I've met.

no people are more self absorbed than back in the day, society is a big factor now more than ever, if you dont have these clothes or this amount of money, your nothing and most people believe that, so they get depressed and medicate their feelings, drug use is on the rise especially in teens, society teaches to become self absorbed, sad isnt it? so happiness is not a factor anymore, some dont even know what it means to be happy .

No- I believe that people who lived centuries ago had much less complicated lives. They didn't have to think about credit card bills and car payments... and all the anal retentive things that society has invented to "make life easier"

wouldn't it be so much simpler to just take care of your garden and and your animals and know that you didn't have to rely on "plastic" to keep you entertained.

Not really. You learn to adjust to your environment and if you never had something, you don't miss it.
