I have a gun...
I have a badge.
And the entire penal system to back me up.

I recently came back from seeing my in-laws who, thankfully, are the best in-laws a guy could ever have. My wife and I have been trying to get our now-retired mother in law to use the computer more, for things like pictures, online shopping, etc. She loves to do it, until it's time to checkout.
We were online at a known secure site. (ok so as secure as a website could be.... but I digress) We got to the point where we needed to enter some credit card information, and that's when she balked.
"I'm not giving out that type of information! Let me use my debit card."
I about dropped the plate of refried beans and fajitas I was munching on at the time.
My brain began to flash through all of the possible bad scenarios that could come of that, and I got up from the table quickly...until I saw my wife take the card out of her hand and shake her head. An actual credit card, with a few more protections in place was used.
This is where the paradox struck me.
It's funny how "Safe" we feel, and what our tolerance of safety actually is. For example, I feel safe climbing on to an airplane with full confidence that we will get there safely. However, if we were to travel via boat, I might not feel so comfortable. In dealing with attorneys, who are usually paranoid to begin with, but usually with a reason, this strikes me time and time again. The issue of legal discovery and metadata come up over and over again. Seeing how much information is actually recorded about you freaks many people out when you show them a sample. Maybe I'm just used to, or accepting of, the fact that I will never get 100% privacy, no matter how hard I try. Knowing my luck, I could build a panic room and still have someone snooping in.
With that said, the purchase arrived the day before I had to come back to work. A high chair for my 10 month old. It beats holding him and feeding him at the same time. Now THAT's something I don't feel safe doing, especially in work clothes.

I feel safe, because of my size, My lack of concern for life, and my desire to watch others die. Plus my home surveillance camera's and all the friends always around me.
No reason not to feel safe. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. Why worry about what might happen.
Life is too short.

i think as a man we feel safer than women. women and children are targeted more to predators and sickos out there. what makes me feel safe is hoping that people will never forget what happen to us on 9-11-01. i hope we as a country can help one another always not just in crisis situations.that to me makes me feel safe that our government doesn't want any more terriosits attacks but they are back pedaling when it comes to other crimes out there being committed.

I feel safe because my Heavenly Father watches over me. Plus I have a very large, very overprotective fiance who would pummel anyone who tried to hurt me.

Of course I don't feel safe. We aren't safe anywhere and
God is in control of my life, so I feel safe about that. So, whatever happens, He has allowed it!
