I bought a gold fish yesterday. Seems completely healthy (although a little shy at first!) but I noticed he has like stringy faeces hanging out from time to time. Could he have dietry problems? Is there anything I'm advised to feed him to help?
Tank was established and all water tests have shown all is as it should be.

That is perfectly normal for fish. Goldfish are especially dirty and will almost always have poop hanging from them. If you feed if shelled peas, you will notice a healthier Goldfish. Good luck!

Goldfish will do this. It's nothing to worry about. But, it may mean that you are feeding it too much. Only feed goldfish once a day and only what they will eat in 5 minutes. Remove all uneaten food after this amount of time. Also, feed a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and various protein-based foods, such as brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, tubifex worms, insect larvae, krill plankton, chopped earthworms carefully selected from your yard where no pesticides or fertilizers are used and chopped cooked eggs. Also, almost anything from the produce section in your supermarket. Romaine lettuce (no iceberg please), cooked fresh or thawed frozen shelled peas, melons, cucumber, grapes, oranges, spinach, parsley, dandelion leaves, broccoli, zucchini, strawberries, bananas. Parboil your tougher foods such as broccoli and carrots. Don't use anything that has been salted or flavored. Otherwise, try absolutely anything at all. They are very adventurous in the food department. You can also make them a gel food by combining baby food, such as strained peas, peas and carrots, spinach, etc. and mixing it with unflavored gelatin.

this is usually normal. gold fish are a type of carp and they are a dirty fish. however if the thread is 2-3 times the lenght of the fish consistantly from day to day and you are not over feeding then he may have internal parasites. Try a product from jungle called Pepso Food. just follow the directions. it is no big deal we get a shipment in and I usually feed pepso as a prevetative so our fish instore are protected.

This is NORMAL. All fish do this when toileting. You'd notice it more with goldfish as they are the dirtiest fish going. You could add the occasional (defrosted) frozen garden pea to his diet as it helps stop constipation and bloating in fish, just remember to remove the outer skin of the pea first.

Goldfish do that a lot. Its gross but its normal. If it looks like a really long strand and hes always got one and the tank gets dirty fast, you could be over feeding them. Otherwise its normal

depending on how long its trailing is whether its an indication of constipation. sounds weird i know. a change of diet usually helps or cut down on feeding amount. your fish is fine. could even be constipated before you got it so should sort itself out soon. good luck with your goldfish

You are probably over feeding it, try a few peas boiled but you must take the outer shell of, these are a natural laxative which will clean its body if it has and sign of constipation.

totally normal. though if its really long he may be alittle constipated, try feeding it peas. if there are little clear stringy bits he may have internal parasites eg. worms, but trailing faeces is pretty normal so i wouldnt worry
