Bamboo trees?

Bamboo is a grass, but yes some varieties grow very large, sometimes over 80 feet tall, so yes some could view it as a tree.

Anyways, as for growing it indoors, certainly you can grow it indoors. You will have to remove it from the pot ever couple of years and divide it in half to keep it healthy, otherwise it will become root bound and die.

As for trimming, once the new bamboo shoots get to the height that you want indoors, simply break off the top and it will grow no higher. Then once the new culm hardens off branching will form at the nodes.

Just so you know, bamboo can be messy when the branches form as the culm sheath falls off and once a year bamboo generally drops all it leaves as the season's new leaves start to grow in.

You might have good luck with some of the smaller varieties of bamboo.

Only if you have enough humidity in your house or porch.
