If you just want to make basic programs you use daily, and want them to work the way you want them to (and not hacking as in entering a place you are not supposed to), then all you do is experiment with many different settings. I was able to make certain programs that don't allow certain things to do stuff I wanted by changing settings such as "read-only" to not read only, and then opening with notepad and editing my stuff. That is a very basic idea. Other things you can is by modifying the look of programs, which can be done by modifying DLLs. Use Resource Hacker for that. After that, you will get use to this stuff and eventually turn to bigger things, making stuff work the way you want it to.
