It is time consuming and expensive when you have a lot of socks. But I don't know of another way of doing it. Thanks.

I wash socks and underwear in hot water, detergent and 1/2 C baking soda it helps the detergent work better to get out tough stains and it's really cheap.... I will sometimes let the socks etc.. soak overnight and start the cycle the next day.. That should help...

I do a soaker load with bleach and borax on white socks, but don't pre-treat them. I usually use hot water, my regular detergent, betwee 2/3 and a cup of bleach depending on the load size and the same with the borax. A couple of drops of Mrs Stewart's bluing for extra whiteness and they come out looking like new every time. I adjust the soak time depending on how dirty hubby got his socks when working in the yard. Check them now and again by setting the machine to agitate and watch them to see if all the stains are gone.

I soak them in cold water, then rub them with good old fashioned soap bar , soap. ( Natural Soap). Once I give a good rub with the soap I leave them free from water leaving the soap on for 1/2 hr , then pop them into your washing machine on a 40ºc normal wash, adding your normal washing powder. Then the sun does the rest off the work , By bleaching out any remaining stains , the natural way . The bar soap is a lot cheaper than stain remover , and the sun is free, when it´s out

I have a ten year old son that comes home with some of the nastiest socks you have ever seen and all I do is wash them in hot water with detergent and a cup of bleach. If I use cold water, it will not work.

If you do a only white wash, then just add bleach and detergent to the wash, and that should do it. If you have a small white wash then do that as a pre wash cycle (I have that on my washer) and after its done, leave it in the washer and do a normal size wash, and add the other white clothes at this time (pastels also) , Add only detergent.
