A city in the middle of a desert. Doesnt make much sense, but it is VERY FUN. That kind of sums up Las Vegas, fake but iconic and fun.

There is heaps to do, which is good as it will be too hot for much sunbathing. I would expect it to be anything between 30 and 40oC during the day. Pleasant at night.

Walking the strip and stopping off at all the places is a great time waster. Just have fun, go to Paris, Venice, New York, Cairo all in one day. The Roller coaster at New York New York is pretty fun.

I prefer to tour places myself, but the grand canyon is such a distance from Las Vegas that flying there makes sense. We did a helicopter trip with a landing in the canyon about an hour before sunset. Wonderful

I would echo what most people have said Las Vegas is a fantatic place to go to but can get very hot indeed in August but there is loads to do espically going down the strip if you are going to the Grand Canyon the best way is to fly get a helicopter trip worth every cent you will find that there are no clocks in Vegas so watch the time it can go very quick here is a tempreture guide to Las Vegas for the whole year good luck and enjoy yourself

Las Vegas is awesome.

I have been there several times and live in the UK. The 11 Hour flight is well worth the effort.

Im now 30. The first time I went was for my 21st Birthday. On that trip I took a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon and ate breakfast actually in the Canyon itself. The return flight taking in the strip was also great.

Other posters have suggested the Hoover Dam. Another great sight seeing tour, either via you own steam if you have a car or on organised trip from one of the many excursion companies.

Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere is one of the very few white knuckle rides that actually makes my heart pound in anticipation and take my breath while riding. I think the high roller has now been taken down.

The Dome at Circus Circus has an small amusement park inside and is excellent when Quiet. The roller coaster outside NY NY is also a great ride, I like that one best at night!

It is scorching hot as you will see from many of the other posters. Make sure you drink plenty of water when out and about. However, going into a Casino is the other extreme. The air conditioning is ice cold. Often cold enough for long sleeved tops rather than T-Shirts.

There are also shows to suit all sorts. I have seen loads over the years, but my top three all still showing are. Penn & Teller (Rio) I first saw them at Bally's. Lance Burton (Monte Carlo) and finally Beatles - Love (Mirage) which is a Cirque Du Soile show. (Bet i've got the spelling wrong on that !!!)

If you post which hotel your going to Im sure you get some good info on that too!

Have a great trip and hope the wedding goes well !!!

Las Vegas is just a town that has anything for everybody therefore learn it with hotelbye . Las Vegas is just a city with good attractions and one particular may be the famous Las Vegas Strip; the place where tourists may enjoy a walk in the warm desert morning, or take a stroll downtown and view a spectacular light reveal that spans a whole street, the Fremont Street Experience. Readers also can get a view of amazing world popular re-creations like erupting volcanoes, the Eiffel Tower and the Sphinx of Egypt facing the many resorts and casinos. Las Vegas is really a city that continually reinvents it self, so even although you have been here before you will never come to an end of fun what to do.

Las Vegas is such a great place - we're off on our 2nd visit there in September.

All the rides at the top of the Statosphere are good fun, only scary if you don't like rides!! There are rides at hotels along the strip too which are also worth going on.

Buy a Las Vegas guidebook before you go. I bought one after our 1st trip and it made me realise just how much stuff we'd missed, not that you'll be short of things to do but it might help you pick out things that really take your fancy.

We didn't do any tours last time but have booked a helicopter tour this time which takes you over the Hoover Dam and around Vegas once the suns gone down - http://www.alllasvegastours.com/ - is the site I've booked with - all different tours on here.

It was hot in September 2 years ago so I imagine August is hotter, however it still gets a little chilly in the evenings so you'd probably find a light jumper useful.

Have a great trip - enjoy the wedding - I'd love to have got married over there but just wasn't possible - so we honeymooned there instead!

It's my favourite place in the world - hence my name! I got married there 7 years ago and it was such a fab way to get married.

You don't say how old you are - you need to be 21 to drink and go into the casinos but there are plenty of things to do if you are underage. The view from the top of the Stratosphere is amazing, try and go up there just before dusk and stay long enough to watch the sun go down - all the lights suddenly come up and it looks magical. The follercoaster at the top has gone but it was boring, they have lots more scary rides!! the reverse bungee is such an adrenline rush, you have to do it! and once you've done it, you'll want to do it again! The rollercoaster at New York New York is great, definitely do that one.

If you have a car, drive out to Primm, it's only about 40 miles but has the best shopping, there is an outlet mall with Gap, Old Navy and fab shops. I bought a Gap fleece for $15, my husband got a Ralph Lauren jacket for $35 - it started off at about $350. Walmart on Tropicana is great for shopping too, it's part of the Asda chain so has George clothes plus lots of others. I got a pair of jeans for $17.

The fountains at Bellagio are beautiful, I could stand there for hours watcing them. Go to Fremont Street one night and watch the light show, it goes off every hour.

The hotels are fantastic to look at, go up the Eiffel Tower in Paris and you might be lucky to catch the fountains. Walk through Ceasars Palace Forum Shops and watch the talking statues.

Make sure you pick up a guide when you get there to see what's going on and when. Have a fab time, I'm going again next year and can't wait.

I am excited for you! I went 2 years ago last week. It was between 105 and 108 degrees. Only once in a week did I say -ooo I'm hot. I usually sat by pool until noon or 1 and then went out.
I stayed one night at the Stratosphere and then the rest of the week at the Venetian. I did like the Stratosphere but like you had a free week elsewhere. I did not go on the rides but could see from the pool a lot of people did. They did seem to be selling a lot of tickets and there was a waiting line. Dining selections were good.
I was not thrilled with the area - a little scary out at night down that far. Make sure you go up the strip and visit all the hotels - once you get up far enough by either car, bus or taxi - walking to each is fine. A lot to do without even gambling!!
HAVE FUN!!! YEA FOR YOU!!!

I go to Vegas yearly in November for Thanksgiving. My wifes family lives there. The city can be fun but it is just a cheap imitation of all the real sites, ie Paris, New York, etc. It is interesting to see all the lights. The food at the buffets and in most casinos is plentiful and cheap.

The rides are fun and the view from the top of the Stratosphere tower is neat. Eat in the restaurant up there and enjoy the view.

If you have a rental car see the Hoover Dam, it's worth the trip.

Take the helicopter to the Canyon, a plane will not allow you to land and limits your view.

I would tell you to go out to Red Rock and climb the rocks but at over 40 degrees C you can probably fry an egg on the red rocks.

Enjoy your trip and congratulations to your mother.

Vegas is an entity unto itself. Lived there for 3 years but the growth has been so astronomical that when I returned in 10 years, could not even find my way out of McCarran airport.
The Strip and going to all of the different casino's is very interesting. August is the hottest month ever. Yes, everyone is correct it could be 3 or 4 in the morning and still be 115/120. Unbelievable. But everything has air conditioning and they spray a mist from most casino's outside to try and cool people off.
Personally I liked Fremont street before they put that glass dome over it.
The Grand Canyon is beautiful
San Diego is only 4 hours away.
Lot's to do, Lot's to see, not only on the strip,
Hope that you have a lovely time.
If you can find it, check out Red Rock Canyon, outside of the city limits in Vegas, and avoid the seedy area's esp North Las Vegas, also if the police pull you over, STOP! They are like the Marine's....good at their job, but they do not put up with a thing out of line.

Vegas is a nice place and not just for gambling anymore. The best Shows, entertainments, the fancy Restaurants opening everywhere are some of the many reasons to go there.
August is hot, yes. But most the time you would indoors during the day. At night the it gets cooler and that is the best time to go out and just walk as far as you can along the strip and watch as many shows outdoors as possible.

The Grand Canyon Tour I have never taken, but from what I heard its very nice and exciting. The only thing I worry about is the safety or aircraft they are using.

Have fun in under the sun.
