I would guess defense.
Prosecutors are government employees. Defense attorneys can seek out high-paying clients and demand a lot.
Some people I know got some experience as prosecutors and then moved over to the defense side to make money.

Depends on what type of defense lawyer. And on how long the trial lasts since most defense lawyers get payed hourly. If it is a private defense lawyer, most likely they will make more than a prosecutor. If it is a public defender, most likely they will make less than a prosecutor.

Good question. There are two kinds of criminal defense lawyers: Public Defenders & Private attorneys. Full time, salaried Public Defenders earn about the same as prosecuting attorneys with similar levels of experience.
Private defense attorneys tend to earn more; some considerably more.
