I recently noticed milk in the tubing of my breast pump. I followed the directions for cleaning in the manuel (warm soapy water) then placed it in a steam sterilizer. The tubing is no longer clear. It has taken on a cloudy appearance. It this ok? Should I still use it? I was also thinking about purchasing new tubing at a pet store. They sell it for fish tanks, but I doubt it's sterile.

It's probably mineral build up, soak it with in a vinegar solution 1pt vinegar to 10pts water overnight. Then rinse well and hang to dry.

Also please remember that your milk in no way comes into contact with this tubing so it doesn't really need to be completely sterile.

My kids are a few years beyond breastfeeding, however I can assure you that I had the same problem. I also remember that you can soak them with baking soda and warm water but most likely it will not clear. It is cheap enough at a surgical supply store, if it bothers you. Good Luck!

it will get cloudy when you steam it. it just takes away the shininess. as long as you cleaned it how the instructions said, it is fine. and if you want to purchase some at the pet store, it will be just as sterile as the one you have.

its fine. the milk doesn't actually touch the tubing anyway. if you look in your manual (or on the wesite if you no longer have the manual) you can probably get replacement parts, though.
