I hear it was invented by a rebellious group of Africans called the Mau-Mau. It was a real lulu and became popular with kids ridings on a choo-choo and the inmates incarcerated at Sing-sing. History shows that before it was mastered it led to many a boo-boo and it has been determined that French ladies could not use it while dancing the can-can. That's all I know for sure. I have no idea why it was called a yo-yo.

The yo-yo originated in Athens, (Well it wasn't called Athens then) the capital, Greece in about 1500 AD. Also, about 500 years ago it was used as a weapon in the Philippines.
