Constipation is very rare. Is she eating enough? Could be dehidrated.

My daughter didn't go for 9 days once. You can add a little prune juice to her bottle if you want. Careful...powerful stuff!

if you use a fleet suppository, you need to cut it in half first. dont put the whole thing in a 5 day old baby. cut it long ways so you can use the other half later. you dont want one half with 2 flat ends. the juice and karo syrup should not be used on a 5 day old. those are good suggestions, but for older babies. are you sure its constipation? because a breastfed baby can go a few days without pooping.

No home treatments are safe for a 5 day old baby. He needs to be seen my a doctor to assess the whether he really is constipated and the cause. Even water is too risky.

Hiya hunni, when my children had this, I used to put a tiny bit of sugar in theyre bottle to help with the constipation. Obviously - this isnt a regular thing, but constipation in a baby is awful. And I think its better than drugs too, it usually works and shifts the wind baby may have too.
Hope all is ok hun and Doc comes soon.
Best wishes

Fleet suppositories are gentle and very effective. When my daughter was born she was in the NICU for six weeks and weighed only 2 lbs 13 oz and this is what they used on her from the very beginning. Talk to your doctor but they're harmless and work quickly.

I just read an answer saying that everything is too risky for a five day old baby, but I'm sorry, if they will give a premature infant a suppository while in the NICU, then a five day old baby is at no risk. I firmly agree with checking with your doctor first, but don't listen to those who have never been in your situation. As for the breastfeeing comment, my daughter has had nothing but breastmilk and consitpation is not at all rare, it happens, especially in baby's who are very young, their systems haven't fully been able to adapt to being on the outside. Try not to worry, it'll be okay :)

When my baby was 2 wks old, it seems that she was a little constipated...when I called ask-a-nurse, she had me to take a pan of warm water and add a spoonful of baking soda and let it dissolve...she told me to sit my baby's bottom in it and her there for about 5 min...when i took her, the poop just started coming...she told me that the solution along with warm water helps to relax baby's anal muscles

Take a pepermint candy and put it in a bottle of hot water. Shake it up till the candy is almost white. Transfer the water to another bottle. Make sure it's just warm.
Only give less than an ounce.

my daughter had this trouble too when she was newborn try taking her thermometer putting some petroleum jelly on it and inserting it into her rectum not real far just about the length of the tip and twirl it around gently this worked wonders for my first and is doctor recommended you can also try mylan drops infant gas drops to ease the discomfort in her tummy.

You should absolutely wait for your doctor's answer. If his is being breast fed, then this is VERY rare and there might be a problem you need to go in for. If he is being formula fed, your doctor will probably tell you to wait it out and then will give you instructions for what to do.

Try taking his temperature rectally. That should be enough to stimulate him to go. Because of his age, that's all you can do until you speak to the doctor. DO NOT give him anything - especially not Karo syrup. (There's no evidence it works.)
