I've taken BC pills for 25 years. I am interested in taking them back to back to prevent a period at all. I have researched and there are special pills manufactured to do just that. I was under the impression that you could just take your regular brand pill pack back to back instead of the "reminder pills" in between packs. I think I did this by accident years ago and they had me continue the pack, and just start a new one after 7 day break.

I've heard of people doing this for a planned event like a wedding, athletic event or even a vacation. In my case I am taking a vacation.

I am NOT interested in how you feel about the issue, only how it is done? When you are on BC pills, you period is not a normal period anyway, there is no need for it if you don't intend to conceive and I don't.

Have any of you done this? If so, if you used a 28 day regime, 21 b/c pills and 7 blank pills, on day 22, instead of the blank pills did you just go on to take another pack of pills?

I have done that when I took a trip overseas; I skipped the placebo reminder pills and started my next pack immediately after the third week pills of the previous pack. It worked.

The other thing to consider is, if your birth control pills are covered by insurance, many companies will not allow you to purchase a new pack every three weeks (as opposed to every four) and you may end up paying out of pocket for this. However, if you are just doing this for a vacation and not long-term, you should be okay.

I would recommend contacting your ob/gyn, however, in case there is some health reason why this would be contraindicated.

I have read of women being advised to just take 2 pill packs back to back and skipping the placebo pills in order to keep their period at bay for special occasions. Considering they've developed a pill to keep you from having a period for most of the year, this approach seems reasonable to me.

one thing to keep in mind. i never did this but i know someone who did . and she bled the week she was due to bleed anyway. once you have gone through the first pack . you are weaning down on the hormone your uterine lining is ready to be shed, starting a new pack instead of bleeding is dangerous. you will most likely bleed any way, my doctors have always told me when i was on the pill to never do this. i dont get why women do this anyway. a period is a fact of life stick a tampon in and go on i have had my period on my vacations and never once let it stop me from enjoying my trip. its too much risk for me to double up my pills. if you want to skip a period see your doctor and switch pills to the kind that makes it so you only have 4 periods a year soo much safer.

Just skip your placebos/sugar pills and start the next batch. However, you shouldnt do it too often, and sometimes Mommy Nature still overrides it, but a good chance is better than no chance, right ...

Yes you can do this with any birth control pill and it is safe to do. If you have taken them for 25 years I am surprised you didn't know this was safe to do. Have fun.
