The "rule" is generally 4-6 months, though some sources say it is never necessary.
However you remember Walkerton, ON where the water became contaminated with e. coli and many were sickened before the public even knew there was a problem? Ask yourself how much of a hassle boiling the water is vs the risk?
FYI you shouldn't be using fluoridated tap water in any case:
http://www.ada.org/public/topics/fluoride/infantsformula.asp
Infants, Formula and Fluoride
The ADA offers these recommendations so parents, caregivers and health care professionals have some simple and effective ways to reduce fluoride intake from reconstituted infant formula:
* For infants who get most of their nutrition from formula during their first 12 months, ready-to-feed formula is preferred to help ensure that they do not exceed the optimal amount of fluoride intake.
* If liquid concentrate or powdered infant formula is the primary source of nutrition, it can be mixed with water that is fluoride free or contains low levels of fluoride to reduce the risk of fluorosis. Examples are water that is labeled purified, demineralized, deionized, distilled or reverse osmosis filtered water. Many grocery stores sell these types of drinking water for less than $1 per gallon.

We put a filter on our faucet, so the water doesn't need to be boiled. I'm not sure that it is necessary to boil your baby's water if you live in the US and get city water since it has been treated for all the bad stuff already. Are you using well water?

It really depends on your surroundings. Is there any reason the water would not be safe for your baby to drink? I know our water makes MY stomach upset, so I buy nursery water for my baby. Boiling water just takes too long.

If the water in your city is treated, and you aren't using well water, you really could have stopped a long long long time ago, like having not boiled it at all.

I never boiled the water for my son's formula. You may want to check with your pediatrician, though. Some areas have water that NEEDS to be boiled. Your doctor has access to that information, so your best bet would be to check with the doctor.

it really depends on where you live. I live in Utah and I have never boiled water for formula or drinking. As I understand it, if you are anywhere in the US, and your drinking water has not been contaminated you don't NEED to do it at all.

I stoped with both of my children at 4 months old . That's just me though, I felt that 4 months was ok enough to go to regular tap. I am expecting our 3rd child in Nov. and I will defently do it for atleast the first 4 months with him also.
