I was recently TOLD not asked to go work at another store permanently. Can they actually just FORCE you to transfer from one store to another? I was under the impression you always needed to be asked before they could transfer your employment.

The company assigned you to a post they thought would be more suited to meet their needs. Remember you are an employee, your time is the companies and they will allocate you to the location and posting they see best fit, even if this does inconvenience you.

It depends. I am a teacher, and with my job, despite the fact I am contracted, I can be sent to any grade level in any building within the district at any time without consent. If I say no, that violates my contract. It may be in the fine print in your contract. If you never signed a contract, then I would check your job description or speak with someone in HR.

You do have a choice: work in the other store or be fired. A business does not have to ask your permission to staff as they see the business needs dictate.
