They are growing up and claiming territories now, that's why the fighting started. It's possibly the lighter colored one is a female, but it could just as easily be a male that isn't tough enough to claim a territory in the tank. They will only continue to fight, there is nothing at all you can do about it. They will fight each other over territory until there is only one left in a tank that size. You need to remove 2 of the Oscars asap, leaving all of them will only result in 2 dead Oscars and one beaten up, but live Oscar.

It is the best idea to remove the outcast Oscar and put it in another tank, because ultimately, it will die if left in there. Also, a 55 gallon tank is enough room for one adult Oscar. I would recommend (If you don't already have one) is to get a water testing kit at your local fish store to monitor the water levels. Oscars are very messy fish, and having that many in there is Bio overload, which could cause the water to be unsafe. Also, Oscars do tend to pick on others that are not the same "color" as them. There is a website, I think its Oscarfish.com, and it is overloaded with information that can help you out. Good luck!

As MM said, they are growing up and reaching sexual maturity. Although they are territorial, another possibility is that the 2 that are killing the 3rd one may have bonded as a pair and are clearing the tank for breeding.

The best thing to do is to remove the odd fish to another tank or take him/her back to the store. It will save his/her life. Another tank for it would be good, a single oscar is a great pet. They all have personalities and I'm sure this one would be very happy living with you in a separate tank.

As far as the other 2 go, you will find out as soon as you remove the 3rd one, whether or not they are a pair or just a couple of bullies. A pair will lip-lock and test each other's strength to see if they are a compatible mate. If they are, they you will have what every oscar lover dreams of, a mated pair of oscars in a tank that is too small.

It sounds like the 2 bullies are males and the victim is a female. They may have just reached their gestation and are courting the female. The other problem is that they are way too crowded in a 55 gallon tank. One Oscar alone needs about 55 gallons when it matures. A breeding pair needs 80-100 gallons. If you get rid of one of the darker Oscars, you will lessen the fighting, but this is only a temporary solution (Oscars get about 18 inches long), they will still need a larger tank.

As your oscars have gotten older they have also started to run out of space and become aggersive. Seems that your light oscar has always been last in the tank. As your fish have gotten older they have decided that one of them has to go and because your light coloured oscar has always had the least dominance in the tank they are attacking it. The only thing you can do is move your light coloured oscar into a new tank. But be warned once the object of their aggerion is moved your other two oscars will probably start to attck eachother. Oscars really suit single tank life.

You are doing two big things wrong. One -- a 55 gallon is only large enough for two oscars. And two, having three oscars will always lead to two picking on the third -- and they could fight to the death. I would find another home for two of the oscars, or get a bigger tank for two that get along and find a new home for the one. They are just growing up, thats all.

I think your oscars are growing and having three of them in a 55g tank is okay for a while maybe at kleast 6 months,But they grow rather quickly and i advice you to get a bigger tank because the little oscar will not be able to defend him/her self anymore..oscar begin to be agressive at about 2-4 inches.is that the only fish you have in your 55 gallon tank?..if you have another tank even if its a 1o gallon tank keep the oscar their till you find a better home for it.

i hope i helped.
