Gold flakes or gold nuggets are very rare nowadays. I wonder if its really gold that you have. They are right, have it examined by a gemologist or a geologist or have it tested at an assay laboratory. They will tell you if its really gold or not. If its gold then you will know its purity. Naturally occurring Gold flakes or nuggets have sometimes inclusions of other metals such as silver, copper or quartz impurities.

The current going price for pure gold would be about $650/oz that is about 31g. You would not make much of a few flakes. Important thing is where did you find them? It is a very rare natural phenomenon to find native gold. Be sure what you found is not 'Vermiculite' that is a flaky mica that shines like gold.
If it is really gold it may lead to discovery of a gold mine which would be really big money!!
However you need to give more data to work in that direction.

Not much. A flake of gold can be incredibly thin, due to golds high malleability. The real question is how much it ways. If you find that out you can find out the price of gold per ounce.

Gold flakes aren't really all that valuable. They melt down to very little. They just look like a lot because they are very very thin. I would take it to a certified jeweler or gemologist or weigh it and look up the current price.

The value of gold depends on the weight and purity of the sample. See the spot price of gold on the link.
