I just found that I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I don't want to lose my baby by doing anything risky. I'm about 9 pounds over weight and would love to lose it but don't know what is safe. Any ideas ladys? If you could let me know what you think i'd appreciate. We've been trying for this baby for a while and DON"T want to lose it.

Eat healthy, lots of fruits and vegetables. I wouldn't worry about losing weight, just watch what you gain. Be sure to get all of your pyramid foods in...breads, fruits, veggies, milks, that will keep you from over gaining. Losing weight will cause your OB/GYN to worry about your pregnancy. However if you are gaining just enough and are eating healthy, they shouldn't be too concerned.

Walking is also a low impact exercise that if done in moderation with plenty of liquids, should not hurt your pregnancy.

It sounds like you are a health conscious person if you are that concerned over 9 pounds. In that case, you know how to be healthy! Just go back to what you knew as healthy eating and lifestyle. But again, don't forget your fruits, veggies, and milk to grow a healthy baby!

Congratulations to you!!!

I feel your pain. I was about 15 lbs overweight and on a mega diet when I found out I was pregnant. Then I quit smoking right away, and packed on ten more pounds within 3 weeks! Its horrible feeling fat while your pregnant, but weight loss is not really an option. Your best bet is to try to keep your weight stable during the first trimester and not to gain more than 5 lbs during that time. When you hit the second, you are going to gain, no way around it, but make sure its no more than a pound or two a week (my doctor told me a pound was optimal), and you will be fine.
Weight comes off in the end, you'll lose around 15 lbs just in delivery. If you are breastfeeding, you will need those extra pounds in maternal fat to help you establish your milk, but after the first 6 to 10 weeks you can start thinking about dieting again. Weight Watchers has a program for nursing mothers, which I intend to start doing after I have my baby. I am also going to take the opportunity to exercise and also start encouraging an active lifestyle in my baby by taking it out running with me.
I absolutely have to lose this weight by six months after I have the baby because I'm in the Army and need to maintain weight standards. If you ever need to talk feel free to drop me a line!

It is recommended that you do not try to lose weight while pregnant (or nursing) unless it is under extreme circumstances due to medical reasons and is closely monitored by a health care professional. Weight gain during pregnancy is the norm and you will be monitored for appropriate weight gain at every prenatal visit. This is a time when your body needs adequate nutrition and "dieting" often restricts some of the necessary vitamins and nutrients needed during pregnancy. 9 pounds over your ideal weight is minimal and will not increase your risk of miscarriage. Your current weight may be ideal for you at this point in your life. If you eat healthy, following basic good nutritional guidelines, you will be fine. Increase your fruit and vegetable intake, eat lean protein, drink low-fat or skim milk, choose whole grain products, limit your fat and sweets, and drink plenty water. Keep active. Look into DVD's and classes for prenatal yoga or exercise. Regardless of how long a couple has been trying to conceive, no one wants to lose their baby. However, sometimes miscarriages happen and they are not necessarily the result of anything that was done or not done. The majority of miscarriages are the result of an abnormality in the development process and can not be prevented. Your doctor will be able to best address your concerns during your pregnancy. If you do not feel a close rapport with your doctor then it may be wise to find another one. You will have a lot of question and your doctor's office is your best place to go to get trustworthy and accurate information. Keep a list with you to jot questions down so that at each visit, you can go through your questions without having to remember them. Either ask your doctor for recommendations or go to your library or bookstore and pick up a good book about pregnancy. My daughter liked "What to Expect While You Are Expecting". There is so much more available information to moms-to-be and new moms than there ever was when I was having babies. Be careful not to go into "information overload" or you will find that you are so worried about EVERYTHING that you forget to bask in the wonder of the new life growing within you.

If you really needed to ask this question because you thought it would be okay to lose weight now that you are pregnant, you need to get some books on pregnancy and read them, and the sooner the better.

There is a lot you need to know about nutrition and your baby, and even considering going on a diet during pregnancy is an indication that you need educating. Please ask your doctor or librarian or bookstore about some excellent books on pregnancy and nutrition during pregnancy. Speak to your doctor about starting a light exercise program of walking or stretching now that you are pregnant.

You need to be eating a proper nutritionally balanced diet and drinking enough fluids to keep you and the baby hydrated, and you need some good factual information if you want a healthy baby. It is time to learn about these things now! You can develop gestational diabetes if you do not eat properly during your pregnancy, also. Get the facts. Take multi vitamins for pregnancy daily. Take care of you and your baby starting today.

when you pregnant, doctors tell how much weight you should gain.If you don't wanna be too big, you are able to exercise while being pregnant in the frirst trimester. It won't hurt your baby to exercise, it's only when you reach that last trimester ofyour pregnancy that you should take it easy. Most pregnant woman do stretches and walking.the most important thing for you to do would be to eat right.Make sure the foods that you eat are healthy for you and baby. The one thing that you shouldn't do though is use your baby as an excuse for eating coz thats what most woman do.If you full, then babys full too.Do not use the im eating for 2 story coz that where the whole problem comes in.That should prevent you from getting too big.Take good care when you hit 8months coz thats the most dangerous time of pregnancy. If you still not too sure, look it up.Good luck.

you should push off losing weight till after the baby now. it is not safe for the baby buy you can be on a healthy diet which is better for the baby any ways. Drink your 100% juice and eat lots of veggies and fruits and to watch out for sugars. Just never use art.sugar or diet stuff while pregnant, they can harm the baby. Eat anything natural! You should be able to maintain weight with a diet like this and then after wards not have to loose that much!

I think alot of people have misinterpreted your question to mean you want to go on a diet I'm interpreting it to mean you just want to be as healthy as you can be while being pregnant. Alot of women who are overweight (usually severely) do not gain weight in the first trimester and actually lose weight as they all ready have stores of fat in their body. They gain towards the end with water weight gain and while the baby starts gaining weight more. your midwife/doctor will explain to you how muchyou can and should safely gain while being pregnant.

If you do not currently have an exercise program I would suggest to start walking even if its just around the block. It will be good for you and moderate exercise will help you feel better at the end of your pregnancy. If you currently do have an exercise program it will not hurt to continue it and speak to your doctor/midwife about any modifications.

If your insurance will cover you seeing a nutrionist then you should make an appt with one. I love seeing my nutrionist she has given me so much great info on foods to help with morning sicknesss, anemia, constipation and diharreah.

Good luck to you!

Are you crazy!?!? If you're pregnant trying to lose weight is a dangerous to you and the baby.

Why not just use your baby as the excuse of why you have the 9lbs. Trust me, if you intend to have a healthy pregnancy you will gain about 20 more in the next 8 months. It will all go away, unless you use the pregnancy as an excuse to pig out.

If you breastfeed then the baby weight will melt off.

Be wise - you have a life growing inside of you and you want to give your baby the best shot at a healthy life.

DO NOT DIET WHILE PREGNANT! You will be depriving your child of the nutrients it needs to be healthly. When you are pregnant you are suposed to gain weight, average of thirty pounds. Do not expect your clothing to fit through your pregnancy. You are after all growing a whole 'nother person inside you. Your Dr will tell you a sensible plan to eat well without depriving your baby of what it needs. Don't be tempted to go super-low fat either, that can be harmful to the baby. If you Google 'pregnancy diet' you will find lots of sites with information to help you have a healthy baby without getting enormous. Good luck!

DO NOT diet while you have a baby. What you can do is just eat healthy, but listen to your body. The baby needs to come first. Lose weight after the baby. Because I have seen people diet and then kill there baby. In some cases it causes mental retardation. Maybe you can exercise while you have it. Nothing major, but swimming is a great way because it doesn't take a lot of pressure and can give you a good work out. Just listen to your body.
