Americans of all stripes are frustrated with both the Prez and with Congress. Here's what matters:

* Americans elected Dems to take control of Congress away from Republicans so that Bush will no longer have a rubber stamp. The rubber stamp wore thin with the voters.

* Dems don't have to deliver anything, so long as they aren't simply a surrogate rubber stamp. Congress' low approval rating comes from being too much of a rubber stamp - too much giving Bush the benefit of the doubt with the surge rather than moving swiftly to pull out troops. This is as the voters are seeing it. Congressional approval would actually rise if Congress didn't spend so much time SUPPORTING Bush's Iraq policy by it's inaction.

* The "low approval" ratings of Congress are NOT at historic lows, though in fact approval ratings for Congress are ALWAYS low. In poll after poll, year after year, decade after decade, voters are shown to approve their own congressman but disapprove of Congress - so just about EVERY congressman has positive job approval ratings, yet the collective that is Congress does not. This phenomenon is independent of the party in the White House.

* Americans are also shown to prefer that the White House and Congress be controlled by different parties, and if they can get the House and Senate to also be controlled by different parties, all the better in the eyes of the voters. This is as the Founding Fathers would have had it - not the party part, but the result: government that is stymied, at an impasse, moving slowly... so that the PEOPLE can do the business of the country.

Your question is specious.

They have held numerous hearings to try and make those in power accountable for all of the abuses of power that the GOP has been ignoreing for the past 6 years. They are restoring accountability and trust which have both been left behind by the GOP. mark my words, the dems will pick up even more seats including the white house in the next election.

BY the way if you want to talk about approval....

A recent Rasmussen poll revealed the following:

If the 2008 election for President were being held today, would you probably vote for the Republican candidate or would you probably vote for the Democratic candidate?

Democratic: 47%
Republican: 32%

In general, is your opinion of the Republican party favorable or not favorable?

Favorable: 38%
Unfavorable: 56%

In general, is your opinion of the Democratic party favorable or not favorable?

Favorable: 52%
Unfavorable: 41%

Looks like the american people have spoken.

Undermined the troops, declared defeat in Iraq, decreased the security of this country, aided and abetted the enemy, etc., etc., and raised the minimum wage to 3/4 of what the fast food places are starting first time employees. really, really, accomplished, and oh by the way, Pelosi's trip to the middle east was an act of treason, even if her statements in the house are free speech. That trip was also unconstitutional and a violation of the separation of powers. Oh, yeah they have issued some subpoenas because they can't make a media circus out of closed hearings where they would get the same answers.

Raised the minimum wage and bickered with Bush over the Iraq war by passing legislation they know will be vetoed. Actually Bush has a higher approval rating than Congress. That's very sad.

Nothing. All they have done is impede the President in ruling this country. Before the Democrats got in, Congress and the President worked together (evidenced by the lack of veto's). But now there is just political chaos. This is why in 2008, we must vote the Democrats out of power and restore rule to the GOP, which works for the best interest of America.

well, they've spent most of their time and energy trying to overcome Republican obstructionism. ah well ... the more the Republican lawmakers put loyalty to Bush before loyalty to their country the more Democrats will be empowered next election cycle. discounting the 25 Percenters, America is sick of the mess the GOP has made of our nation.

PS. it's interesting to note that the neoCONNED fail to take into account that the low opinion of Congress has more to do with Republicans blocking Democratic efforts than with the Dems being unable to overcome Rep obstructions.

Lots of hearings and investigations. Many vacations. Not much else. Even their wild-eyed base is after them about their November '06 promises v. their '07 actions.

They broke all their promises and only accomplished two things.

1. Minimum wage increase
2. Wasting billions in tax dollars and time with the cut and run movement
