which made me curious. What would all you lil' fundies do if you got your wish and made this a christian nation. What would your fundementalist theocracy do with all us heathen athiets agnostics and the others of different religions?
Tolerate us? For how long? How long would it take you to go back to your roots and start burning folks at the stake?
I know what your thinking... but the history of man is strewn with the corpses of those that said that could never happen here.

We were founded as a Christian conserveative society. The American public has expressed intrest into returning to those roots, and have made the needed political adjustments for that to happen. Our laws should be based on the rules set forth in the Bible. Our government should use the Bible as the standard for governing society.

You make a good argument, but regarding how we might degenerate, We in this country have only witnessed one episode of religious persecution. (Salem Witch Trials)
and if a few clear thinking individuals had spoken up about the integrity of two or three young girls, It wouldn't have gone on as long as it did.
Regarding Seperation, The actual statement ws written in a personal letter from Thomas Jefferson. He alluded to the First Amendment as creating a "Wall of separation" between church and state.
BUT there is no actual phrase making it mandatory other than the actual First Amendment
The interpretation that is generally used today comes from the late 1940's and early 50's

Horrible idea. We all see how theocracies have thrived in the middle east.
I actually support abolishing all religion. There is no reason for people in the 21st century to rely on bronze age fiction for their cues on integrity. Science is our future, not medieval fairy tales. Religion doesn't provide anything beneficial to society that we couldn't achieve through education, common sense and community.
Why put our WHOLE country in the hands of myth? There is ZERO proof of god or anything the bible claims, yet the religious nuts think we should shape our country and laws around a myth. Why not shape our country's laws around words of Zeus or Poseidon? There is just as much supporting evidence of their existence as there is of the Christian god.

Religion is simply man's way of explaining things he could not explain scientifically.
However, you cannot deny the existence of a God. How would a giant boom create this perfectly functioning world. I think not. Somewhere out there is a designer, a Creator if you will.
As for seperation of church and state, it's ridiculous to assume that this ever happened. God is in our pledge, on our currency, and in our judicial buildings. He is a part of the U.S society that will never be removed.

I don't know a single conservative who would argue for a 'christian nation'. All we want is freedom from religious oppression. The Constitution says that congress will pass no law establishing religion. That's it. It doesn't prohibit the practice of someone's religion ANYWHERE. If congress ever passes a law establishing a national religion, I'll be right beside you. But it hasn't and it won't and no one I know wants that. We just want folks to be free to practice their religion, ANY religion, without interference.
You see, my ancestors came to this country hundreds of years ago fleeing religious oppression from Anglicans. I find it rather ironic that today, we're faced with a similar oppression from liberal atheists.

Great Question! Our Country was founded as a result of our forefathers moving here to ESCAPE religious persecution. This was first and foremost in their minds when they designed our constitution. If these people want a theocracy, they should move. That way they can control the schools, government and be closed-minded.

I'm a christian, and definitely DO NOT want that to ever happen. I am a huge advocate of the separation of church and state and think it's very important the nation stay that way. If we begin to force our beliefs on others and let our beliefs dictate what all people can do, then we are no better than the totalitarian Muslim nations we loathe so much.

contrary to what so many are saying on this forum, at no time did any religion or group suggest that our country become a religious nation, after all if so then what would the Jehovah's witnesses do on Saturday? the only thing the Christan's have asked is to be free, let them have prayer in school and encourage people to become Christan's, not by force but choice, if the majority of children don't want prayer then allow the ones who do to go to another area of the school and have their prayers, today in so many areas the Muslim are allowed to wear their ridiculous clothing and kiss their feet and even wash their feet in the sinks at school, and the Jews can put up their hannacha banners across the streets etc, yet Christan's are not allowed to even put up a nativity scene in any city??? don't you think this is discriminating against Christan;s? even after they founded this country and developed it,
B.T.W, are you by any chance homo, also?

For T-22: "God" does not, cannot, and will never exist. As far as the assumption that we have a "perfectly functioning planet" then how is it that we as humans are forcing the planet into a warming stage? If the planet was perfect it'd be able to adapt to this.
To the original poster: I fully all out believe that if the hard-core, right wing, extremely religious (I'm talking the leaders here, the core group of Christians) were in power and separation of church and state was no longer in effect, atheists and agnostics like myself and others would be dealt with swiftly and with no justice involved what so ever.
Which is fine, because then I can go underground and literally "fight the man"
