Even though both deal with economic analysis, it must be kept in mind that the two men lived a century apart.
While they both wrote about division of labor, production investments and costs, class conflicts, and accumulation of capital, industrialization was in its early stages in Smith's time, and Marx witnesses the excesses, the abuses, lack of protection for workers, child labor, 14-hour work days, etc.
For your assignment, even when you point out the similarities between the two, it may be a good idea to stress the different times they lived in and how societies and nations had different levels of economic development in the 18th and 19th centuries.
