That is one of the most ignorant beliefs that I have ever heard.
Seriously, are the people who believe that really that stupid?
Have they never heard of people with disabilities, including learning deficits?
I think that is an arrogant, self-righteous attitude to believe that all poor people are simply lazy and that they should be hated and ignored.
Should ignorant people be tortured with a taser up their you-know-what until they get a clue?

bob j : you are way out in left field too.
1. I am not a liberal.
2. I never said people should be tortured for not agreeing with me.
I won't even try to explain my point because you will never get it anyway.
I guess ignorant & blind people are drawn to questions about ignorant and blind people because they identify with them.

God tells us in the Bible to help the needy and the widows.
It's not difficult to tell who either doesn't know anything about what the Bible says, or does know, but doesn't care.
I pray for the ignorant. . . that God will soften their hearts and open their minds.

First of all I don't believe in putting people into categories - so to answer your question.
Some people who claim to be poor, might be some of those who refuse to look for a job. Some feel they deserve more per hour, therefore won't take a job because of that. Many feel if they can live off the government, then why not. Some are lazy, and some just can't seem to have enough income in order to get ahead.
That is the difference between claiming ALL poor people are poor because of disabilities. Income varies for everyone, depending on their capabilities, which is just.
But unless you can back up your claims that we all think poor people are poor because they don't want to work, then I think you need to rephrase your question.
Some people have a harder time than others, due to disabilities, some have the "no college degree" disability, which is equally as bad, they are unable to make enough due to lack of education, therefore are in the lower income bracket.
But we are NOT all ignorant or stupid, thank you very much.

While some people believe in sweeping stereotypes, most people realize that SOME people are poor because they are unwilling to do the needed work to support themselves. I have known a number of people like this.
You are correct that some people are disabled to the point that they are unable to work. However many disabilities only limit what jobs a person can perform instead of barring them from the work place entirely. A person who can not walk or has difficulties getting around could do my job; I sit at a desk. In some cases people with disabilities are unable to get assistance for one reason or another and are therefore unable to get the training the need to transition to another job. There are of course cases that the disabled person is unwilling to seek the training and as such remains poor.
It is unfortunate but these cases can become very visible and some people believe these cases are the norm.

I totally agree, I'm a poor single parent that works hard 8 hours a day everyday and then work 12 more when I get home. I am far from lazy I just don't earn enough money to be "well off" like some people. Some people have no choice but to live off of things like welfare because like you said some are disabled and cant work. people need to learn never Judge a book by its cover.I'm not talking about ones that just have babies so they don't have to work, these people need to get out there and see other people work hard for their money. working to earn a living is very satisfying.

I think poor people are not willing to work hard enough to raise themselves up from poverty. I can give you a list of names in my extended family alone, of adults who have never had a full time job in their lives. I have an aunt who has never been more than a telephone operator. She has always complained about her miserable lot in life. In an unusually sober moment, she admitted to being an underachiever.
I am lazy. I don't want to work. I took early retirement at age 57. I made my choice and am satisfied with it.

The only people who think this are people born into privileged families in well-off communities. They live sheltered lives where the only poor people they see are on TV or at the drive-thru window.
It's the Republican way - You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own.
It's easy to call poor people lazy from the comfort of your trust account-paid for home. Just like it's easy to call war opponents traitors, unpatriotic or chickens while you and your family sit at home......not enlisted.

This sounds like you are perhaps a disgruntled out of work disabled....
Seriously though, many people view low income people as such because that is what is shown. That is what the media shoves in our faces daily. Is is an ignorant view, yes. Unfortunately, for every down on their luck, disabled person who wants to work and better their lives, their are 3 lazy ones that don't.

Well, if their weren't so many lazy people who collect welfare instead of getting a job we wouldn't have to think that.
Obviously there will always be exceptions, but when a large number of the populous decides they just don't want to work and want to leech of the economy... Let's just say their the ones who need a taser up the ***.

Most poor people make poor spending decisions. However, there are plenty of examples of poor people who are just freakin' lazy.
I submit that you are being a little ignorant yourself. Disabilities and learning deficits, ok..but you need to open your eyes and realize that laziness and poor decisions are a more common reason.

The poor in this country have been taught by liberals to blame others for their poverty, and therefore that they are owed by the society. Most people in poverty are alcohol or drug addicted, or are single mothers having swallowed the feminist lie that they should be sexually "free" and don't "need a man." Am I blaming the poor for being poor? No. I am, though, not going to blame society, their parents, their teachers, etc. either. But I do blame them if they take a victim's mentality. It only hinders them, and keeps them bound in poverty. Many have escaped, but NOT by being a victim and believing that someone "owes" them something.
