I think he was a mindless B movie actor who stumbled through two terms in the White House allowing Iran Contra, tax breaks for the rich, taking credit for the fall of the Soviet Union when it really failed by it's own internal ineptness......

I couldn't agree with you more! The results of his deregulation is still being felt today. Our infrastructure is failing and no one has to blame except the lack of government oversight to keep the utility companies honest and from their taking advantage of the people.

As far as his "stopping" the cold war...that is a bunch of BS because it was the TALIBAN and Al Qaida who did it by bankrupting Russia...something that they are currently doing to us now. Reagan just happened to be President at the time. Same with the Berlin Wall.

For most of his "Presidency" he had Alzheimer's...I guess that is what they are saying when they say he was a good President.

Look at all that happened in his terms i.e. the cold war, bringing down the Berlin Wall, and I'm sure there was more but I was also in elementary school. I remember sitting in front of the tv watching his presidential address and even as a young child he gave me goosebumps and I wanted to scream USA. How can he have that influence on a 10 year old? I look back at his terms and think how much guts he had. He had the ability to get things done even though he, as a republican, was in the minority. He stood up and said what was right and didn't compromise his beliefs because of the ***** liberals. How refreshing it is to have someone state a well educated belief without worrying about being in the minority. He also had his wife that he loved very much at his side who never tried to interfere in the world of politics. That dig was meant for Hillary. He didn't worry about winning popularity contests and because of this he won every state except Minnesota, I do believe,

That would be because he reversed failed Keynesian economic policy and failed detente foreign policy.

As a result the word "stagflation" is no longer in the lexicon.

We've ALL benefited from the lower tax rates and he DID win the Cold War. Saying "the USSR lost" is not an argument - yes their system was bad, but that's like saying the Spurs didn't win the NBA Title, the Cavs lost it - - it's the same thing.

Besides, if Reagan was so bad, how come Clinton kept 99% of his economic policies in place, and furthered most of it!?

He was a good president - 1. He built back up our military, which Jimmy Carter had shamelessly left in shambles. 2. He cut taxes thus halting the double-digit inflation. 3. He challenged Communism and won.

When it comes to policy I think he's one of the worst ever.

However, you have to admit that he made it cool to be American again. We had no national pride under Carter, and hadnt had any for years before him. Reagan may have ruined nearly everything he touched, but he was an amazing morale booster-kind of like Washington (who proved he was inept as a military officer, but the soldiers loved seeing a 6ft dignified man on horseback leading them).

I disagree with your view of him in the Cold War though. He definately did help end it. He knew from day one the Star Wars program was going to be a failure, that wasnt the point. He kept the economic pressue on the USSR so they had to spend their money trying to keep up. He made it impossible for them to focus on internal problems.

You're entitled to your beliefs, as odd as they may appear.

I though of Bill Clinton much along those same lines, a corrupt ex-Governor of a backwater state who raised taxes on the middle class, pissed off the country so much that they threw the Democrats out of control of both Houses of Congress, let corporations run amuck in their accounting schemes, and largely ignored the developing terrorist threat blooming under his nose while he had it firmly inserted up various interns' private parts.

Don't forget the fact that he trained the "freedom fighters" in Afghanastan to fight the soviets.. the same freedom fighters who later became the taliban and attacked us. We trained them and taught them how to fight against a large conventional army. We armed and trained Ossama Bin Laden because of Reagan.

As a Democrat, I can say that he was good. I wish some neo-cons would stop blindly following everyone within their political spectrum and admit that Bush sucks. Reagan good, Bush bad.

I agree. Though he was a bit before my time..its my understanding he closed a lot of state funny farms and put a lot of mentally ill people on the streets as a result.
Maybe it was charisma? He did write some lovely stuff..perhaps it was in the things he said and how he said them? I know i LOVE his atheist son and his lib rants :)
It will be interesting to see what people say is so great about him

Were you even alive at that time? Your question sounds like it was written by a high school student regurgitating talking points. Read a book.
