Seriously; Selig has now confirmed that he will follow Bonds in his pursuit of Aaron, presumably until the historic ball soars into the stands. Fine, no problem with that. But the career HR record has stood only since 1976.

Biggio is chasing down Hughie Jennings' career HBP record -- Bidge needs three more to pass -- and this is a record which has held since 1903 (Jennings played his last game in 1918, but last got plunked in '03). It obviously is a much harder record to break, and I think the commissioner should give equal respect to such an outstanding achievement, particularly one that was built without using any pharmaceuticals stronger than Ben-Gay.

I know, the naysayers will point out that Kendall will probably catch and pass Biggio in a few years, but we'll cross that river at that time. The spotlight is on the Houston second baseman right now.

So how about it, Bud?

I have already marked my calendar for Biggio's big moment.

If I were Selig (I would kill myself), I would attend the next Astro's game, order the pitcher to hit Biggio 4 times, then fly to San Fran and order the pitcher to do the same thing to Bonds.

Err, no, I meant watch Bonds break the record, yah, that's the ticket.

It's a tad surprising though, looking at Jennings record how he can get hit 50 times a year, then nothing for over a decade.

Do you think the manager went up to him and said 'you know, Hughie, you can move out of the way of those pitches' ???

As far as the degree of difficulty, I am shocked that people say that hitting a home run is harder. How many people hit 40 homers in a season?? Lots, how many get hit 40 times, hardly any.

I think we need to re-evaluate Bud's priorities and have him follow Biggio.

Good call Chipmaker, let's write a letter to selig.

OH, can anyone confirm that bud can indeed read??

I'd have to say he won't be there. The home run record, although held for only 31 years is a lot more prolific than the HBP record. Since Babe Ruth started out-homering entire teams in the 1920's, people have marveled at the homerun. Babe Ruth himself was larger than life and the records he set are as well. Although the record has only been surpassed once since Babe Ruth retired, the public has been constantly looking at who would be the one to break it. It's a good bet that 99% of sports fans would have to look up who the all time HBP leader is. So I would say that Bud won't be in attendance. It's ironic though that such a small target like Biggio has been hit so many times.

It's harder to get hit by a pitch than to hit a home run? I couldn't disagree more.

Let's weigh the caliber of the players involved.

Bonds and Aaron ---

Biggio and Jennings

Hmmm, yeah I'll take the achievements of Bonds and Aaron.

As far as Selig goes, I see no need for him to attend for a trivial record such as hit by pitch.

Betting man here.. I doubt it. and I'm surprised that Selig is goin to be there for bonds. It will be a sad day in baseball when He breaks the record. Bonds has tarnished the record and baseball with his egotism.

I agree he should give equal respect, but, we're talking Selig here. Not a really great commissioner who;s a puppet of the owners.

That's my take

I don't see that joke of a Commissioner attending Biggio's moment. He should be removed as Commissioner but that's another subject altogether.

youre absolutely right!!! every record deserves Bud's prescence

you dont see him in KC right now, watching ARod become the fastest man to 500 HR, a record that might stand for decades

but no, he has to be Bonds lil whipping boy and come and kiss his asss when he breaks the record
