A fundamentalist view of religion puts the Earth at the center of creation and the stars, moon (ours), and other heavenly bodies placed in the sky around us. Reread the first chapter of Genesis. Taken literally, Earth is the center. The movement within our solar system CAN be described with Earth at the center but the math is so much easier if we use the sun as the center of rotation.

Same reason I just answered a question for someone who wanted to know what 3+2= to help their 7 year old. People can be ignorant, not stupid but ignorant, big difference.

The true theory is Gadcentric. I am the center of everything.

Geocentric model is just a model. And since there is no such thing as absolute rest ( or absolute motion), you can choose a geocentric model.

However, there is catch. Such a model would be inconsistent with the laws of physics as we understand it. Hence we would prefer a model that fits with the laws of physics. That is a Scientific model.

However, in certain less demanding situations we may prefer to use geocentric model. Infact, when NASA tracks its satellites, they use a geocentric model to generate TLE's ( a set of measurement values used to keep track of satellites).

But let me clarify that none this justifies what some cracks and wierdos claiming geocentric model to be a valid ' scientific model '.

Geo centricism is ony Ego centricism on a bigger scale. The pride humans associate with the fact that "We are the supreme in all creation" is reflected in that "theory".
