Our dog knocked over a very large bowl of water in the living room. We tried soaking up the water with a towel etc. After 2 days I started noticing a mildew type smell. The carpet is not wet anymore. I have tried febreeze etc. Any ideas?

I don't know if I can help or not. Mildew-smelling carpet is pretty tough. First, make sure it's completely dry. If not wet-vac it until you feel it's dry and set a fan on it. Mildew deterrents usually have ammonia or bleach in them, which are not okay for carpet. Best idea would be to lift the carpet and replace the carpet pad under the area. I don't think it's only the carpet that smells. And leave a bunch of downy sheets down there while you're at it.

The answer from Debbie is perfect. If you do what she says...all will be well.
